Thumbs up 2010 Camaro SS named "Sports Car" with best resale value by Kiplinger

Check this out. Kiplinger just rated the 2010 SS Camaro as the best resale value in the sports class.

Best Resale Value: Sports

2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS
Sticker price: $31,595 (1SS manual)
Dealer cost: $30,365
New Car Blue Book Value: $32,543
Five-year service cost: $3,900
One-year insurance cost: $1,225
Resale value after three years: 62% -- five years: 44%
City: 16 mpg -- Highway: 24mpg

Also capturing the nod for Best New Car, the highly anticipated Camaro SS features a growling V8 that puts out 426 horses and a retro design inside and out. Not surprisingly, this beast is expected to be in demand on the used market as well, with resale values of 62% after three years and 44% after five.

To win best-resale plaudits, the model must first be selected as one of the top 25 vehicles in its category. Then we pick the vehicle with the highest three-year resale value.

It's all about supply and demand.. if Gm can keep the supply just under demand..That's what Mini does and it works for them. I would never want to buy a used SS though .. don't know how it has been treated..

I hate to rain on this parade, but I think clg is correct . . . . that current resale value must be based on all the crazy "used" prices that we have been seeing; I've seen plenty of "used" Camaros (usually with very low mileage) asking more than sticker . . . but that cannot last

I did one of the "true cost to own" comparisions -- I think it was on Edmunds -- and the 2SS came out with the lowest cost to own, versus several lower cost competitors such as the V6 Camaro . . . I thought that was strange, so looked at it a little harder -- they were showing the first-year resale value at something like $5K over sticker! So they were actually showing a negative cost to own for the first year! (or something silly like that)

so anyway, my guess is that Kiplinger report is probably based on wacky numbers

Perhaps, but it's still good publicity and at a time when GM needs to keep sales up, it's good news.

I'm not parting with mine, ever. Pre-order and relatively low vin number. Delivered on 5-29-09 and have 2600 miles on it. I'm sure others have lower miles and vins but I'm pretty confident I could unload it for a heck of price if I had to. Even though there are getting to be more and more of them on the road in my area, the drool factor is still outrageous.

My ride was a good investment!

I would think the limited production models (Synergy & whatever comes next) would hold value well. Imagine what the "Jay Leno" would re-sell for? V6 yea, but with a pair of turbo chargers!!

Wacky numbers, definitely! I'd believe Edmonds over Kiplingers any day.. KBB is wrong too ..

Just like I used to tell all my Global Warming idiots, I mean friends .. time will tell.

Good news if I get a wild hair to sell the SS and buy a Z28 in a couple of years.
