Anyone else get engine oil low warnings?
I've had my car a year, and it only has about 2500 miles on it. I first got the warning around 1900 miles...went to the dealer and told them what was happening and had the oil changed while I was there. They told me that they were going to monitor it and have me bring it back in every 500 miles.
I might have put 200 on it before winter came, and off it went to storage. Well, now that it is spring I've taken it out a few times...last time I took it out I got the warning again. I have yet to take it in to have it looked at. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem...if so what is going on? |

This might be a dumb question ,but did you check the oil to see if it was low? If not you got a sensor problem. If so you got bigger problems.

This is a dumb question, but we don't have a lot of information. Did you check the oil level right after the oil changes? The SS holds like 8-9 quarts of oil versus your standard 4-5 quarts. How much oil are the collecting when draining, maybe the sensor is out of whack?

The first time I had it changed (and so far only) it was about 1.5 quarts low.....but they did put the recommended amount in at the change. I have no doubt its burning more oil than it should....I'm just wondering what could be the cause.

It's not rocket science.
Check the oil regularly. Trust the dipstick over any sensor or light on the dash. If it's consistently low even after you fill it, it's burning or leaking out. If the level stays constant, and you continue to receive lights and warnings, there's an issue with a sensor. |

Years ago my first Corvette 2001 drank a quart of oil every 800 miles. Excessive for todays high tech engines. Did the oil watch thing by the dealer to verify the excess. The LS2 had a ring problem and there was a TSB issued. The rings were replaced (warranty) and the usage stopped. Sounds like a possible repeat.
