GM Performance clutch help?

Looking to buy a GM Performance parts Dual disc clutch (part #19331079). I know I've heard a lot about other dual disc or triple disc clutches from RPS, Centerforce, RAM etc. but I work for a Chevy dealer and get a pretty good discount on this clutch kit. I'm not looking for reasons to buy the other brands but looking to see if anyone on here has this clutch and what they think about it. My car is an LS3 with a Lingenfelter Cam, headers CAI and tune and I can tell the factory clutch isn't going to work. Dyno'd at 440hp at wheel. thanks for any input

At that power level, you really don't have much to worry about in the clutch world.

Your going to be hard pressed to find another person who has that clutch. The only real reason someone would buy that clutch,is if they were in your shoes.....Needless to say, not many people work for a dealer, and get parts at a huge discount, so that being said, when all the options are on the table, and they discount is gone, there is no reason to buy that clutch. Not when there are so many other good products out there.

I guess also if I end up boosting it (supercharger, turbo) and adding nitrous and would be looking at 600-700 rwhp in the future, I don't really want to be throwing another clutch at it. GM states it is rated for 800 lb/ft torque

I always try to go way past my goals when it comes to a clutch. If i plan on making 700whp, then I want a clutch that's rated for over 1000whp. Always leave yourself some room.

This should be a general rule of thumb for all things when you consider your goals and upgrading parts. I think is one of the biggest contributing factors involved with failures. You don't build a vehicle that can withstand 700whp at its max and actually run 700whp, or more for that matter.

just as a quick update. It looks like RAM clutches makes the GM performance division's clutches for them....Chevy just sublets this out? must not have the engineering to develop a strong clutch, lol

Why spend time doing it when you can use someone else's design and charge more money for it?

That clutch should be fine but at least spend the $79 for this piece from http://monsterclutches.com/gen5-z28/...earing-support

It will save you the headache down the road!

Those days when every part was actually manufactured by GM are long gone.

The real question is Why spend the money building a factory, buying steel, hiring union machinists, facility employees, managers, lawyers, accountants, parking lot stripe painters, to build a clutch when you can just give your specifications to an established manufacturer, and let them pay for the paper pushing?

To the OP. I don't know what kind of discount you get but thats a 1600 dollar clutch. Why do that when you can get a new Mcleod RXT for $ 1,200.00.

my buddy's SS has 800 crank hp with 50k miles on it and his stock clutch is still perfectly fine, never slips. Keep in mind he doesn't drag it and beat the hell out of it.
