2nd Gear Grind
How it going guys? I'm new to driving manual and today at WOT I sifted into 2nd and there was a loud grinding noise I looked down and saw the tranny had popped out of 2nd. What do you guys think caused this my thought Is that I hadn't put the tranny in 2nd gear fully and let go of the clutch also how much damage do you guys think it caused ? I drove the car for about 15 min after and everything seemed fine. thank you guys for all your help

You missed a gear. Shifted to late or hesitated while shifting.

it's a known thing with the TR6060 in the M6 SS models.
Once the trans is up to operating temp, you should be good, but you'll probably get a good grind if you try and bang on it while it is still cold. Just search this forum for "2nd gear grind" and you'll find a myriad of "fixes" some of which are as simple as letting the trans warm up, others involve an additional clutch fluid cylinder, upgraded clutch master cylinder, or replacing the trans fluid with something other than what the factory provides. There are also options for rebuilding the trans with some upgraded parts, but that shit starts getting $$$. Me? I just let the transmission warm up before getting too rowdy on my shifts |

The grinding is only a "known issue" on the 2010s and 2011s. His 2015 is likely fine. Though, I will admit that even the new ones are stiffer when cold, and the fluid/reservoir issues probably do make them smoother.
I suspect he missed the gear, also. I've done this once while trying to drive the car gingerly when cold -- I simply didn't get it all the way into 2nd and it popped out. No grind, but I suspect it would have if I was getting on it. Scared the poo out of me, as I've had past cars where this was an indicator of a real mechanical problem. But, thousands of shifts later, and it never happened again. OP, it is highly unlikely you hurt the car doing this once. |

same issue i found after buying my '15 new. Just let the trans warm up. Hopefully you just missed a gear, but if it continues to pop out of gear contact Chevy for warranty work.

Thanks for all the input guys. The cars going to go to the mechanic shop to get LTH installed ill have them change the transmission fluid also. I was shocked when it happened I hadn't experienced a noise like that it felt like it lasted for 2-3 seconds. I learned from my mistake.

Granny shifting not double clutching like you should.” – Dom Toretto
--interesting hearing about this issue. I've never had it on mine when cold or up to temp
