I traded my 2012 1LT for a 2013 1SS last December. Insurance went up $6 a month. Gas here is about 20 cents a gallon more for 93 vs 87 (less than $4 for a fill up when near empty, but I usually fill up before it gets to 1/4 tank). The additional permagrin is well worth it!

The guy wants to buy a v6, enough with the SS remarks...
That said - I do agree with buying used or getting an up model. While I enjoy my 1LS, I'm bummed that any change I make to the car to add features I want like RS headlights will require more work than just plug'n'play.

If you plan to mod it you may consider a 1LS or an LT with a manual. They have better gears and a Limited slip diff and can use gears from the SS. 2LS in the newer years has gearing for mileage not performance and all the V6 autos have an open diff and their own gears. So you won't be able to put in gears from an SS that has swapped out or even the 3.91's from the 1LE.
It really all depends on how far you want to go with modding and what you want. In the long run it may be cheaper to buy the LT then adding things after the fact.

Get the LT for sure. If you want more performance the LS just won't cut it.

Owning both a LS and LT, get the LT. You will most likely get more of the modern necessities like bluetooth, wheel radio controls, electric passenger seat that height adjusts (LS passenger feels like sitting in a hole). Plus, you will get fog lights, better wheels, and other exterior options.

Go LT. You definately want to have sport mode. I NEVER drive in "D". Everything else you can easily modify as it sounds like you want to. BTW, I love my 2 tone grey cloth interior. Much more comfortable & durable than the leather (Just IMHO).

Go to a dealer and put your butt in one of each and see what You want.
Leather seat covers can be had from SLP online at times for like $650. You can also upgrade the suspension or brakes with take off parts from them as well. Next person who says get an SS needs to get slapped.

The OP is actually one of my friends, convinced him to buy a Camaro at my house so i guess he posted with my account. He wants a V6, because he does not want to pay for the insurance (18 year old driver).
