My ZL1-1LE WHEEL WEIGHT

I got bored and decided to weigh my oem wheels. This is just the oem wheels, center caps and tpms sensors. ALSO, weighing both fronts and rears at the same time. So divide by 2. just wanted to eliminate any confusion.

The fronts weighed in at 27.3lbs each and get this, the rears came in at 27 lbs each.

That isnt a typo. The rear were lighter than the fronts.

The only thing I can think is because the offset difference. The front offset is less, so the "spokes" have to be longer than the rear, which is more material.

Even though the rears are wider, the material is thinner and barely makes a difference.

Just figured I would share out my findings.

Added some data with my scale to compare Apples to apples.

Z28 wheels
Front 26.6lbs each
Rear 27.2lbs each

APEX SM10 ZL1-1LE size and offsets 19x11 & 19x12
Front 25lbs each
Rear 25.5lbs each

Are you weighing just the rims?

If that is the case what kind of rubber are you putting on. Take a reading after the rubber is on if you don’t mind. I would like to compare the numbers to my street setup on my ZLE which consists of 2015 Z28 rims with the PS4S Michelin’s in the 325/305 stock sizing.

Correct, " wheels" not "wheels and tires"

That is exactly my plan. Currently I have the oem Z28 wheels on the car as the track wheels. I was gonna weigh them after I break them down to get them painted.

I will be either putting oem rubber back on or the ps4's

Sorry, when we refer to wheels at my work it’s typically rims and rubber but I got ya. Here’s a couple pics of the weight of my Z28 rims with the PS4S rubber.

I must admit, I like the PS4S but often I miss the 3Rs. I’m not knocking the Michelin’s but I’m not as impressed as I had hoped for. I don’t think the ride is way better. But they do wear down a LOT less that’s for sure.

Cool. No problem it's better to be safe than sorry and make sure we're all on the same page.

When I get back home I will weigh the one front oem super car three R I have

The PS4 will be for the street only. I got caught in the rain once with the 3Rs and it scared the crap out of me

Interesting.. probably made the fronts with thicker metal due to the increased lateral loads they'll experience on track.

The front's weigh more due to the offset. My Vossen HF-5's are 20" and weigh exactly 30lbs each, maybe the front's were about 30.2 or something but I just rounded it off. My OEM ZL1 wheels were just over 31lbs each. I knew my Vossen's weren't going to save a ton of weight though since they are hybrid forged instead of full forged. The weight isn't bad on the 1LE wheels even though they're smaller, but slightly wider. A set of aftermarket full forged wheels like BC forged would probably be around 23-24lbs each in 1LE specs.

What Z OH 6 said, almost every set of ZL1 1LE (OEM and aftermarket) i've weight, have the rears weighing less than the fronts. It's all due to the substantial amount of aluminum used at center of front wheel to get the offset.

Best regards,
Dave
