I'm going with shorty's, with the old school thought of anything that can help the engine breath better is a plus. Also with the shorty's no tune is required and that will keep your warranty intact and the engine bay looks much cleaner ...

Just thinking, what about going without the catalytic converters? I know might have problems passing the tests in my state, but I have 4 1/2 years to worry about it. If I do the high flow cats., can anyone recommend some. I also took a look at my car and realized that it isn't going to be that straight forward to install. It looks like the headers go into a pipe that then bends into the converters. Do I need to cut the pipe after the bend and take out the original converters and then install the high flow ones? I think that will be a little too much for a novice like me.

The replacements bolt right up. This is what the cats look like:

I just looked on Magnaflow's website and they are saying they are $1200 each. That is crazy. That can't be right. If it is, does anyone want to buy DT shorties ?

I removed my secondary cats on my SS... haven't dyno'd it with the new setup yet, but the stock cats are a huge restriction point. It changed the tone of my exhaust a bit (slightly deeper), and was way cheaper than going with high flows.

Not to put in a shameless plug, but I am selling my new (in box) DT shorties since I decided to go with LT's. PM if interested... I'll go $100 less than what they sell for elsewhere since I'm moving in a week.

You don't want to pay that. I paid much less. I only got those because they look like the stock cats. They are not high flow. You want either Solo or JBA

I have an A6 with Magnaflow Catback exhaust, Vararam intake and a tune. I took of all of my cats and loved the sound. Not too loud but a nice deep rumble. The ONLY issues was right around 2500 rpms, the exhaust had a "rice burner" type sound to it. Only if you are shifting normal. If you are going WOT, then you couldnt hear it at all. Since I spend the majority of my normal day to day driving time around 2500 rpms, I couldnt take it anymore and had high flow cats put on it. It is definately quieter now but I dont hear the rice burner sound anymore! I may try putting on the secondary smaller cats to see if I can get it louder without the rice burner sound. Ill keep you posted!
