I'm gonna replace my battery soon. Which one should I get?

December will be three years since I bought my SS and so I'm figuring I need to replace the battery before the battery leaves me hanging somewhere.

So what's the flavor of choice with aftermarket batteries?

I always changed to the Optima battery. It can handle whatever you put in the car, ie stereo, mods, lighting etc. Since it is drycell, you can lay it on the side too. Been using the yellow top for several years now.

I like the Optima batteries but I don't know which model to get. I looked on their website but there's none available on their app tool for our cars.

Any ideas to a model or part #?

In my view, batteries are batteries. Whenever I, or anyone else in the family's original battery died, we've always just gone with a generic brand, and never had a problem.

And 3 years isn't that old. I've had batteries last almost 10 years, and never less than 6 or 7.

To me replacing a battery at 5 years would be plenty early. I just replaced the battery in my CTS at 7 years old (it is a 2005) as it was getting tired. As others have said though, if I replace one I tend to go Optima because they seem to perform well and last.

Go with the yellow top. You will have to install it sideways to clear the panel.

Yes it is early to replace the battery but if you have stuff that will take a toll on the electrical system, it is wise to change the battery. I had a competition audio system in an older car and the generic battery from the local auto parts store did not last for more than 18months. After 2 replacements under warranty, I changed to Optima. Never looked back.

I have NEVER had an OEM battery last more than 4yrs. The Florida heat can be brutal.

If you drag race. Pick up a Braille battery. much much lighter, smaller and quality. Cost more $$$ though.

for everyday use, I preferably use Interstate Megatron or Optima Red Tops. For high wattage useage, go w/ Optima Yellow Tops.

I have to agree. Nowdays, 3 years is nothing. I would start thinking about a new battery in 6 or 7 years. I've never had a battery just go dead on me, there have always been warning signs before hand.

And I have to say, that all batteries are basically the same, some you just pay more for because of the name.

I personally would never go with Optima batteries. I'm on my 4th Optima red top battery - they last about 2 years and then die. Thankfully the warranty is 3 years... They used to be great batteries but they sure have sucked for the last decade...
