"I'm a car guy" card revoked!

A guy at work is (was) a 'car guy'. Still has his '65 GTO, etc. He asked me about the engine choices in the new Camaro. I told him well, there's currently the 3.6L LFX V6, the 6.2L LS3 and L99, and the supercharged LSA 6.2L in the ZL-1, plus the z/28 with the 7.0L LS7.

And he says "Isn't that excessive?"

I said "what's excessive?"

He says "that many engines"

"Car Guy" card...REVOKED!

At the risk of having my own revoked...in a way he was right...except for government regulations, there's no real need for the LS3 and the L99 both. Personally, I'd have rather paid a GG tax to have an LS3 paired with an automatic as in the SS sedan.

ok I might have been a little harsh..but the only thing in my eyes anyway, that Chevy has going for it is its power plants..I guess not all people appreciate power..

You would've. The general public...not so much.

GM doesn't care if the SS sedan has the GG tax because they really don't care how many units it sells. It's just to pump out extra Commodores in Australia.

There's no need for a new Camaro, period, V6 or otherwise. There's no need for any car that can exceed the highest speed limit in the nation. There's no need for his '65 Goat, there's no need for my '70 buick, a '65 GT350, a '70 Chevelle SS LS6 convertible or a '69 ZL-1 Corvette, and really, there's no need for any car at all except econoboxes with hyper efficient hybrid drives, and even then, only if people car pool. There' no need for color choice in an automobile. There's no need for a radio in an automobile in 2014 either.

You're not a 'car guy' just because you own a cool car. Anybody with a checking account can do that. When you think "that's an excessive number of engines" available for an enthusiast's car...you may not be an enthusiast and an enthusiast is a 'car guy'.

You're on notice regarding your own 'car guy' card status.

That's a nice opinion, but anyone can buy a car. There's plenty of celebrities that own classic cars. A percentage of them are "car guys". The rest are old car owners.
