Manual or automatic?

What do you prefer and why? I prefer a manual because I feel you're more involved with the car that way, but that's just me. What about you guys?

Edit: I had NO idea this thread would get so heated so quickly, it was just a question.

I think you'll find that most people prefer what they bought.

All my cars have been manual, if available. Better performance, better milage, cheaper repair.
Plus, it just "feels" sportier.

Of course, with the new 6, 7, and 8 speed autos coming out, performace and milage gains go out the window.

This never gets old!

People prefer what they bought, unless they don't. I usually hear of auto guys wishing they had a manual, and not the other way around. Sometimes buying an auto is necessary for the queen wife to drive it or sign off on the purchase, etc.

I prefer manual. It's a mind game for me, I love matching RPM's and executing good downshifts coming into corners, upshifting when i want to...

I really wanted to learn how to drive a manual, and I practiced before I got my camaro. I now love it and don't wanna go back haha.

Very true, soon autos will completely take over (if they haven't already) D:

Most.....most is the operative word here. Just because some didn't opt for manual doesn't mean they can't or have never driven manual or understand the differences. Try and grasp that. Or not.

Best answer I've read in the THOUSANDS of auto vs manual threads that go on here.

Each has it's benefits. An automatic is "easier" it's a no brainer, floor it, it goes. A manual allows you to hold rpm's, engine brake, decide shift points, make cool engine sounds as you take it up through the revs in each gear, it gets you the LS3 426 hp engine without cylinder deactivation and it's the only transmission that allows you to order the NPP dual mode exhaust with the V8.

It's that this topic has been beaten to death and the end result is ALWAYS THE SAME. Drive what you want, they both appeal to their respective audience.

I used to prefer manual. I thought I would regret getting the auto, but suprising love it. The sport mode on the A6 is actually very fun as it keeps the revs up alot longer in the turns when your getting on it.
