Pros - bump in power for the coyote
- strong numbers from the turbo 4

Cons- added weight
- less mpg's for both the v6 and v8
- less power for the v6

Seems to me like ford is gonna wait till the next fen camaro drops to do something drastic to improve power and mpg's so they can steal some thunder. As for the v6 it seems like ford has positioned it to force buyers towards a more profitable t4 or coyote

The drop in EPA #'s is due to the tests being done with each model's performance gear option. The GT Manual EPA #'s are based off of its 3.73 gears and the Automatic is based of its 3.55 gears. Same thing for the V6.

I do believe that Ford will up these numbers substantially when the new camaro comes around. Look for ford to introduce direct injection and the 10 speed auto currently under develop in either the mid cycle refresh or the next model.

Also recently, Ford got spanked for releasing over rated MPG's. Still it's just a general guide. Some people will get better and some worse than what is mentioned for MPG.

MPG means nothing for most 5.0 owners same as SS/1le owners......it's better known as Smiles Per Gallon.

Isn't it the EPA that does the rating?

The EPA just provides oversight in most cases. From what I understand manufacturers set the majority of the FE estimates that go on the labels.

Basically the EPA just looks at it and says, "Eh yeah probably."

I don't know what all the rules are, but I'm pretty sure that when it comes to things like gearing options, the manufacturer has to use whatever is expected to be the most popular choice in their rating.

The EPA only tests a small percentage of new cars each year (somewhere between 5 and 10% I believe). The rest is done by the manufacturers, according to strict guidelines & procedures set up by the EPA. When a car is tested by the EPA its mostly done as a compliance check to see if the car achieves what the manufacturer claims.
