Hey Dragoneye, I asked Tom if he washed yours yet, he says he's too busy! LOL.

THIS is what I gave up in November to WAIT in QC Quarantine since the end of January when MY #61 ZL1 was built. I've owned 47 new automobiles over the years. I'm married, so I usually buy two each year; some I don't keep for long at all. I have had Corvettes, Blazers, Z-28s, Cadillacs, Trans-Ams, (Cosworth Vega... sigh) etc... ALL GM vehicles. MY LAST GM product was an L-69 HO '83 Z-28; let's NOT even go there, I understand the CTF thing, but to have a BRAND NEW 2012 automobile still collecting DUST, BIRD DROPPINGS, RANDOM SCRATCHES & FRIGID TIRES ...*"Warning... Warning, Will Robinson!"* Pay NO attention to the "warning in PRINT regarding temperature ratings"...because of "gray stripe" is positively ridiculous.

I'm sure that the ZL1s are extremely well built. The Oshawa Plant has a fine crew. Getting that vehicle to the end-user by train & truck is another story. It takes a car engineered like the ZL1 to get my attention after owning some of the best Europe & Japan has to offer. The engineering derived from this Camaro will be used in other GM vehicles & restore GM back where it belongs. I hope that the bean counters allow folks like Al Oppenheiser to make that dream a reality for years to come. It's more important that a lot of folks realize.

If I had a better magic8ball, I would have a black PAINTED stripe put on, but that's life.

I was going to post what mlee said that GM does listen
to our reactions concerning these cars. When they heard
like a 100 percent disapproval reaction here they yanked
there original grey strips. It's possible that were working
on replacing that strip with a new one at the same time
they we're working on the other problem. We have no
clue as to what they may had to go through to find an
acceptable replacement. Just saying I understand your
upset and I'm sure they wish they could send out your
ZL1 with all the rest going out. But there going to make
sure that yours is a finished product.
I want the exposed carbon fiber hood and was going to
not order the strip after I saw what they were going to
produce. Now I'm hopefull the strip will be acceptable to
me that I would be willing to order.
I hope you get your car soon OP at least yours is in the
foreseeable. When my dealers allocation came up for me
the exposed carbon fiber hood was on constraint. I passed
on the painted fiber hood and so I'm now waiting again
for my dealer to get another allocation. Hopefully this
coming week I'll get some good news.
Hang in there you will have one sweet ride very soon!

I truly hope you are happy in the end! I know the frustration.
I didn't order any stripes because I wanted to paint exactly what I want on it.
Hopefully you will get yours and soon!
Best of luck.

So do we have any idea of how many of us there are in the "gray stripe club"? I also remember the "carbon fiber appearance". I guess at some point that was changed to gray. Maybe with a headcount we can venture a quess as to time. Maybe......

Tomorrow, April 9th is my birthday; my ZL1 was born on January 31st. I suppose that I'm a member of the Lord only knows what stripe will EVENTUALLY wind up on my exposed CF weave Victory Red Camaro. Yeah, it would have been a nice way to celebrate... to have my baby freed from the frozen tundra & come home where she belongs. I could have driven the ZL1 virtually ALL WINTER as it's been unusually Spring like for the most part. I put a $2.5K non refundable deposit down months ago with that & a "handshake" to seal the deal. I agreed to pay $5K over MSRP to take delivery. Should something like ...oh, we got a better offer from someone else come up, care to make a higher offer? ...I can assure you that I will NEVER buy another GM vehicle EVER again.

So your dealer screws you over and you blame it on GM...

Some of the stories that I've read about greedy dealers give me pause for concern. If a dealer doesn't want to earn my business & honor their "word"... NO PROBLEMO! Just return my "deposit" & I'll be driving a Black/Black Ltd Edition 2013 NISSAN GT-R later that week & I'll chalk this experience up to GM's self fulfilling prophecy. I can turn Perma-Frown into Perma-Grin through other "available" venues.

I'm not "assuming" anything at this point... just don't underestimate the other guy's greeeeeeeeeeed!" Give me a break... GM had plenty of time to assess the aesthetics of a $470 stripe kit long before it was panned by the critics who actually buy these cars. Black would have been fine! NO?

At least Nissan has specially trained mechanics & limited dealerships who wouldn't have to scratch their heads as to what those yellow "things" are stuck in the coil shocks. Yeah, I think GM owes me competence from Mr GOODWRENCH all the way up to the Corporate Offices.
