Radio backlighting uneven and streaky

On my 2SS the radio lighting seems strange. Kind of a bright cloudy area in the center and then a lot of vertical light streaks where any numbers or letters are. If I turn the brightness way down seems less noticeable, but then the ambient lighting is pretty much off. The center section between the speedo and tac are kind of the same way but not as bad as the radio.

Are they all this way, just crappy back lighting or should I have it checked out? Kind of makes the ambient lighting useless if I turn it up bright enough to see that, only to have the radio obnoxiously bright and streaky.

Mine looks ok. You may want your dealer to look at it and order you a new stereo.

I've been in a few different, 3 to be exact, Camaros and have noticed it in all of them including mine. It seems to be worse the colder it gets...

another quick note... Mine isn't as bad as the other 2 that I saw. On a test drive, the radio looked so bad, I had asked if they would replace the head unit if I were to buy it. The guy just kinda laughed and said he didn't see anything wrong with it. Go figure...

OK thanks. Now that some mention the cold, it does hit me that some warm days or after it's been running for a while I don't notice the problem. Mr. Radio Engineer must have never heard of cold weather validation.

Mine looks just fine whether it is -10* or +90* It looks perfect no matter the temps.

Not that it matters much, but the display looks like it's a VFD, not an LCD.

Yup, exactly. Mine is even a little worse than that when really cold. Seems brighter in the center and then verticle streaks coming off the top and bottom of each letter/number.

Since it seems to be just a common quirk when cold, I'm not going to mess with the dealer.

Somewhere is an engineer that need to be shown where the cold chamber is and how to validate crap down to -40. Lazy SOB probably just signed off on whatever the supplier said met specs. If I looked at one of these on a cold start up, I could tell in 2 seconds it's funky and a piss poor execution.

But I still give the car an 11 on a 1 to 10 badassness scale.
