My LLT is BLOWN! Connecting rod is loose...

I had what sounded like a valve out adjustments going tick tick tick at 2-3000 rpm when not under a load. That tick turned into a clack clack so I brought it in. My GM dealer now tells me that Monday morning they are dropping the pan and a GM rep will be coming by to inspect and approve a warrantee fix.

I will visit when they are working on it and take some pictures for you all to see. a new crate engine will be ordered and dropped in... Ugh. Any ideas for performance upgrades while it's being done? headers? Spark plugs?

dammit, no longer virgin...

Used 75 Camaro = $3500
Rolling restoration over 10 years = $5000
$5 of gas burned in 10 seconds = Priceless!

I am sorry for your loss. Try to find out what might have caused it and let us know. Good luck and hopefully it will not take too long to get her fixed and on the road again.

At least they are letting you bring you stock air box in and they are changing it back to stock so you get warranty work!

See if they'll drop in the LS3 for you due to the pain and suffering you have to go through by not being able to drive your camaro for a few days.

yeah, i thought about that...but the same reasoning of why I opted for the LLT would bite my butt once again. I traded in my V8 350 1975 Camaro for a reason, efficiency. I love this V6 as a daily driver, it gives all the power and more at every upgrade. I am sure it will be 100% reliable once this LLT dud copy is pulled out. They make em' so fast, a defect is bound to happen now and then.

More news soon!

At least they are not trying to rebuild the bottom end - much better to have a replacement motor.

Let us know what GM determines to be the reason for this. They'll take good care of you. It sounds like your dealer is doing a good job so far.

I canned the dealer that sold me the car in favor of this fine dealership, Royal Chevrolet in Lasalle. I struck a common cord with the senior mechanic that was to drop the pan on this coming Monday. He's an old biker (as am I) who loves engines. (he just bought a used Softail)

He told me that the only other LLT's he had opened had pulled timing chains. Seems the early ones had some chains that loosened up over time. Also, he told me of a whole series of 3800's that had no cross drilling in the crank at the front and rear bearing caps. All those GM customers had a new engine in thier car ownership life.

He was not concerned about the procedure and he reassured me it was for the best. He also stated that it's far better than mucking around in the block as GM would ship a brand new engine, in a crate with oil already in it.

I plan on giving him a digital camera to snap important shots during the process. Let's see what the inside of this LLT looks like now! He expects metal shavings in the pan...

Best 2 all,
eB

maybe the old heads are in good shape....and the dealership wouldn't mind lossing them then have your new buddy put them on for you after a port/polish!!

sorry to hear about the issues, scares me that the early ones might stretch timing chains, I'm pretty sure the wifes car is a early production unit

Don't worry about the timing chains on the 2010 Camaro, the mechanic was talking about the 2007 cadillac cts's that first featured the engine, not the 2010 Camaro. They have seen only a few driveline issues on both the v8 and v6's.

I will keep you all posted!
