Magnaflow Axle Back

Just installed axle back magnaflow 2.5" ss with 5 inch tips. Had to cut off the OEM exhaust to do it. No big deal but it would have been nice to know that before i made my decision. Oh well. The tips fill the holes and the sound isn't bad. It does amplify the AFM, just have to keep it in a lower gear in traffic. Maybe a stealth tune without the AFM is the next mod. The wife wanted a little more noise when she goes WOT, so for the price it's great.

$374.00 delivered MarylandSpeed, actually it was free shipping

Was this the competition axle back system? What is AFM?

I ordered mine and cannot wait to get it! Then time to install that and my Magnaflow x-pipe too...can't wait to see how much it changes the sound.

Yes Competition Series, Active Fuel Management allows the engine to operate in eight or four cylinder modes for increased fuel effiency. AFM (AFM) operates by energizing the valve lifters to be on or off. When in four-cylinder mode, the valves are closed and the fuel supply shut off. In the 4 cyl mode the exhaust has a weird note before it changes back to 8

I just ordered the Doug Thorley shorty headers and Wednesday I'm getting the resonators/baffles cut out and straight pipe with an X-pipe in it's place.....along with some Flowmaster Super 44 series mufflers.

I know this will be an awesome combo, I'm just hoping the AFM isn't going to be too annoying.

Do you have a part number for those Magnaflows? Where did you get the tips?

AFM is only on the automatics. You won't have this issue on the M6.

BTW: All axle-back systems make you cut the OEM pipe. IMO this will only be an issue 30+ years from now if these become classics and you decided to restore the car back to factory specs.

Man....try to get some video when you're done and post it. I haven't heard any flowmasters yet. Also, it would be nice to see dyno numbers before and after your mods. They sound like they will be some common mods for alot of people.

I just went through an extensive test of the new SOLO Performance Axle back system on my car. THe drone in 6th is minimum under full load with AC on and will be in that ballpark when available (2 or 3 weeks).

I went to SOLO because the Magnaflow on my SKY has gotten dronier with age, i mean it always had drone. The full X-Pipe cat back I have on my car is sweet with NO DRONE.
