If Chevy tinkered with and improved the intercooler and intake manifold because there was more hood room due to the apparently taller mowhawk then there could be a substantial increase in HP, ...also take into account that thought with the following quote....

"we’ve also heard rumors that GM intentionally turned down the wick on the LSA as utilized in the CTS-V to keep it from overshadowing the Corvette ZR1′s LS9, which is rated at 638 horsepower and 604 pound-feet"...

No doubt the 1900 via increase in the intake/plenum/intercooler package would be much closer to the ZR1's numbers IMHO...
Following up on that philosophy, the ZL1 could be rated at more than the ZR1 and not come anywhere near it's performance because it will weigh sooooo much more! But, anywhere close to ZR1 HP is probably wishful thinking. I guess we'll see won't we?

I've been saying about 580 for a long time

I've been thinking for a long time the potential of LSA was not realized in CTS-V. Bump the boost a few pounds and add LS9's cam (or at least something with a little more plumbs than CTS-V's cam) and 600 would probably really easy. It seems the taller plenums of LSA (ZL1 and CTS-V) would flow a little less restrictive than LS9's squished design, too.

I'm secretly thinking final certified numbers will be higher than 580, but would certainly be quite happy with that number. More is better of course

The power of the LSA is definitely not realized!! You increase the boost by 3-4psi and add in a cam and you are looking closer to 700hp.

I am getting ready to do a 2.55 upper & 9.1 lower pulley for a 10% overdrive and LT Headers and will be looking at close to 700 to the crank.

I'm gonna come out and say that Chevy will knock Ford's pants off and bust out with 600 hp.

I'm not sure how that will knock Ford's pants off when they are rumored to be that high or higher...
I hope GM can beat them but it will be an uphill battle...

Maybe its not a LSA..... but a new variant of the LSA?

The only think I'm a little concerned about is the size of the blower. While it's probably optimal for this motor and power level, it'd be nice to have the 2300 set, like you have in your Maggie.

That's going to be KILLER!!!

It's not all about the power. It'll be interesting to see how the chassis on ZL1 will compare with the current improvements on the Phony. It would seem like it would be a wash, but time will tell. I have my own idea on how it will compare, but the numbers are going to be what matters. It's one thing to brag about power, but it's another to make use of what you're bragging about.

I just hope that Chevy doesn't release the final numbers barely above the current CTS-V LSA numbers and then a few months later Ford releases a 600-650HP Shelby/Cobra/whatever they want to call it like it is rumored. Would be like a punch to the stomach.

You guys are missing an incredible fact that ultimately decides the horsepower rating:

PRICE

If they want to sell this car base in the high $50k's, I'll say 566 HP

If they want to sell this car base in the mid $60k's, I'll stretch all the way to 582 HP

There's no way they are going to put 600+ horsepower when they have the Corvette. Let Ford be the dummy and roast their tires while they try to put all that power on the ground. 650+ horsepower in a Mustang? at what price?? $80K????

There are already a couple companies doing the blower swap on the CTS-V with the Maggie 2300 and Whipple 2.9. Should be plenty of options for the ZL-1 when it comes out.
