again with the same...i was told by a reliable source that in order to change the oil one must "take off the pan" i dont know much about mechanics but this source says..."how exactly will i change the filter without the oil?"
now my question is...so i'm still like in red alert right? that my car's tranny might give out? i'm so confused. |

first off, do me a quick favor and quit calling it tranny oil. just call it tranny fluid. cus every time you call it oil. i start thinking of...well, oil. lol
here.. try this http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/inde...article&id=392 its a truck forum, but you the procedure is about the same as you should have a 4l60e tranny same as the trucks, camaros, fbods, and impallas and caprice's.

I'm assuming your have a automatic, since you wanted to buy a manual to learn for the Camaro, and Automatics are A LOT heavier than manual transmission so changing the fluid is not as easy and i'm not positive about autos but i think you have to refill from the top of the tranny (which means either pull out most of the lower dash area and try to pour in from the top, or, just pull it out), i'd suggest you wait a while because you would want it cleaned (unless your fluid is clean without chunks of stuff in it), you would want to wait until you get manual because its not a quick job to clean an Auto. or take it out. so unless you have any leaks or issues you might want to wait a little while

Paddle shifters would be cool, but I think I' ll still opt for the six-speed.
As far as the ATF, I wouldn' t recommend changing it. I know it doesn' t make sense but your mechanic was right. Changing the ATF now will more than likely lead to leaks. You see, ATF is a very good cleaner when it is new. Because you have driven over 100,000 miles on your current ATF the cleaning properties have diminshed allowing small dirt particles to collect on various o-rings and seals in you transmission. Those same o-rings and seals have also deteroriated, again due to the long period of time the ATF has been in your transmission. New ATF will "clean" all of the particles that have collected in those o-rings and seals in your transmission and because the condtion of the seals and o-rings has been compromised they will start to leak. It may even cause poor shift quality and will more than likley accelerate transmission failure. You' re better off with the old ATF. Unless it came with synthetic ATF. If that is the case you should change it ASAP. |

yeah, its cool, im not flaming you or anything. i had a buddy of mine call me up a few months back cus one of his other friends had just gotten a 96 M6 Z28. and couldnt find the tranny dipstick tube. i had to explain the whole concept between a manual and auto fluid accessibility. the guy had only driven civics before that and nearly wrecked the car cus he had never had that much power. lol

hey im new to this site and this is my first post. So anyways the c6 corvette is available with paddle shifters (not the Z06). Any idea whether or not this will be an available option on the Camaro?

I hope to see the Camaro have it as an option as I'm pretty sure that I want the automatic. |

The Malibu's auto is paddle shiftable. You can bet your retirement money the Camaro's automatic will offer it.
