Their forged rims, I think that says it all. Whatever you hit that bent a forged rim would have done far more damage to a cheap aftermarket rim. You should be glad they were the OEM forged rims, most likely would have been a much different outcome if not.

I've managed to put a small dent in both the front and rear wheels on my motorcycle thanks to the wonderful roads here in MN, and it's lighter with more tire sidewall than the Camaro..

That’s a thought!

I read posts on the Corvette forum from members with up to 3 bent wheels on a Z06. Some of it would be due to lower quality castings, even if they’re forged. Run flats with stiff sidewalls transmitting the impact of bumps to the wheels compounds the problem.

I don't think the OEM rims could be considered fragile. The OEM ZL1 wheels I took off mine were definitely in the robust category. The 5th gen ALCOA wheels were lighter and considered far more crash resistant than other wheels. When OEM GM wheels bend on impact, others break.

back when I had my 99 Firehawk, I was leaving Memphis and hit a BAD chuckhole on interstate and later noticed a shimmy in steering at 53-55mph. when I had it up on the rack I found both right wheels bent on inner hoop - not bad but enough. I remember I was surprised that no tire had blown at the time and this pothole was on the interstate!

Well I have an appointment on Monday to get the wheel straightened. We’ll see how they do. They quoted me $125 - $175 depending on what’s needed. Hopefully they’ll do a good job and I won’t have to replace the wheel. The dealer quoted me like $895 for a new one yikes! Looks like I could get one online for about $550ish. Either way it’s a serious chunk of change for a pot hole encounter.

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S had 2 major flat spots due to pot hole impacts and had to be replaced. On the Mini Cooper S, (pot hole impact) the inside of the rim cracked and caused an air leak, rim had to be replaced. We have the highest taxes in the nation, and the worst roads.

I had 2 on one side of my car slightly bent. Not bad enough... so when they put on the new tires they added some wheel waits to help balance them a little.

With such rough roads, I am considering 19 inch rims with a little more cushion for the street and keeping the 20s just for the track.

I absolutely walloped my left rear wheel on my 2019 ZLE on a rut on the shoulder of a road going about 15mph. I hit so hard I thought for sure I damaged my suspension. But nope. No wheel damage. No shaking or shimmying at speed. No problems at the track the next eeek.
