According to Corvette Product Manager, Harlan Charles, the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport matched the C6 Corvette ZR1 around Virginia International Speedway during benchmarking. That means the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport clocked a brisk 2:45.18 time around VIR. Charles stated that was with a seven-speed manual gearbox.

Additionally, he revealed the full slew of 2017 Corvette model year changes would be available on May 13.

Tires and aero certainly are the components to thank for such a sweet, sweet time around VIR. The Corvette team has had multiple hits with each iteration of C7 we’ve been graced with thus far, and the Grand Sport sounds like it will be the perfect sweet spot for those looking for more track-readiness, and loads of livability."

Sweet, get it in blue. I wonder what the 2017 model changes are?

Anymore rumors about the Zora Mid Engine ZR1?

Nothing on the mid-engine Corvette. My guess is it will compete with the Ford GT so expect it to be exotic and expensive. I think there will still be a typical Corvette for the masses.

Changes for 2017 are minimal, colors, etc.

Torn between Admiral Blue and Arctic White. And yes this GS is HUGE bang for the buck.

Here's my new Silverado, I love it. This is my first truck and I can see why they're so popular. It's great to have room for friends and family and be able to haul a few things here and there.

The new Camaro prototype is interesting. The aero looks awesome and the tires are massive.

What lurks under the hood is what time most interested in.

If it's the LT4, can it really be considered a Z/28? It would effectively be an upgrade to the ZL1, the R to the ZL1's GT350, so to speak. That is not something deserving of the Z/28 badge.

Does lap time, track performance or engine determine if a Camaro is worthy of the Z/28 badge?

It it performs on the track like it should...I really don't think it matters what's under the hood to be called Z/28. I appreciate peoples' drive to maintain "heritage"...but at some point, it needs to be okay to leave heritage in the past, and remember it with fondness as we move forward. I mean...what if the Trans Am series in 1967 dictated 300hp...would we require that output for a badge? IMHO...

The new "Z/28" prototype appears to use the ZL1's body as a starting point. No doubt due to superior airflow over, under, and through it versus the SS body.

However...the Camaro team was able to make the LS7 work well using a 5th-gen SS body...so what would the need for all that cooling be? A crazy new hi-revving, hi-hp engine? Or an LT4?

I would like to see a ZL1 counterpart...the Z/28.

Shared body, engine, and platform...but tricked out analog suspension, Carbon ceramic brakes, super-sticky tires, dry sump oiling, stupid-aggressive aero, stripped interior.

It sort of makes the "supercar" variant of the Camaro a reputation shared between the ZL1, and the Z/28...choose your flavor: street, or track?

Obviously, the day will come where the V8 will die. My point is, if this car has the LT4, is it really a different model? The Z07 isn't a different model. The 1LE isn't a different model. The ACR is a different model but the Viper only has the one engine.

I would say yes, it is more than just the engine, you have to account for the entire package. Look at the new Grand Sport.

That is a model strategy that only Chevrolet knows why they do it. At what point does the additional go-fast goodies denote a model separation? The 1LE gets the blacked out hood and suspension bits, but keeps the SS badging for example. I also think there is enough difference to warrant the separation. Same could be said for the Z07, all those upgrades while keeping the lower level badging.

The Grand Sport is the Z06 body with the LT1, so that's different enough in my opinion.

If the changes are enough so that they can't reasonably be an options package, I guess that would make the case for new model. As with the Z07 Stage 3 and 1LE, that can be wheels, tires, shocks, brakes and aero.

Well, the point is moot because this car is supercharged.

Around 30 seconds in it sounds like you can hear a blower whining.

Yep, got it now....hmmm

Well, house of Z.......I have new theory....what do you think?

This car clearly has enhanced aero, carbon brakes, smaller/wider and stickier wheels & tires....and a supercharger. It is based off of the ZL1's body.

Option 1) This is a "ZL1.R", effectively a track-rat version of the venerable ZL1...the Camaro's equivalent of Corvette's "Z07" package. Purists rejoice, for there will not be a Z/28 until the company can develop a powerful-enough naturally-aspirated engine for it.

Option 2) This is a Z/28, utilizing the LT4, or some variant of the engine. Purists, deal with it.
