I have become quite partial to the LSx RX7s myself. Yes, one could argue the Rotary is part of the soul of that car, but IMHO, rotaries are to problematic and Mazda doesn't offer a V8 to supplant, hence the LSx and it is small enough to fit! An unmolested, non riced lst gen RX-7 is just a beautiful car, same with those old 300Zs.

Good info there.

Hennessey reminds me of the crazy high HP cars that everyone produces from the aftermarket. I would almost bet the 13 GT500 with MINIMAL mods will be as fast as the shelby 1000. always seems like wasted hp.

If you haven't done so, go check out SVTPerformance.com

There are plenty of data bits about how the GT500 responds to mods. For example:

2013 Shelby GT500
JLT 123mm CAI
Ford Racing Twin 65mm Throttle Body
Evolution Performance 100 Octane tune
Stock Boost

-672rwhp-
-649 ftlbs-(600+ftlbs from 2.5K RPM to 5.5K RPM)
DynoJet
93.5*F STD Smoothing 5

-661.47rwhp-
-638.50ftlbs-
DynoJet
93.5*F SAE Smoothing 5

And Slingshot....there is a pretty big knuckle-dragging drag racing group out there....at LEAST as big as those that actually push their cars near the limit on a road course (or on the road...heaven help us all). And I'm being quite generous when I say "at LEAST". So for some in this market, straight-line acceleration is a VERY big issue with them.

Personally, "beyond the 1/4 mile" to me is daily or weekend or 'whenever I chose to' driving on the street. In this realm, a bit better ride may not be enough to offset my perception of better visibility. Or, 'easier to drive near the limit' might not offset my desire for the quicker car. Or.....well... you get the picture, I'm sure. "Beyond the 1/4 mile" no doubt works for you and a great deal of folks here - but not necessary many others.

Being a drag racer is ok....even if I do walk bent over with my fingers nearly on the ground...

We all have opinions...
The poster was referring to outside the scope of the 1/4 mile ... Which a lot of the younger bulls don't seem to be able to comprehend.

Most but not all of us older guys, have done the 1/4 mile and street thing back in the 60's and 70's and are now well beyond that in what we want and expect.

Definitely have to agree here (LSx in Miatas, RX7s, and S13/14 240s...)

Hennessey is a "little" overpriced though, correct?

And easier too.

What isn't nowadays? Power cost money, it's just a matter of how much money you have and how much power you want.

From my perspective, yes... But, I'm sure there are plenty that don't think so.. But, I'm also just fine with buying my denim from Walmart and Target over Express and Kenneth Cole.

Personally, I'd be a little upset only running with an OE GT500 for 20K... and since the HPE700 is a modded ZL1.. then, the valid argument of "what would 20K do for a GT500" comes up.. Which, based on evidence thus far.. 20K in a '13 GT500 would leave a ZL1 so far behind, it wouldn't even be considered a race.

So - having recently been in Canada and the US - I can say that I'd LOVE to be in your position and drive these cars on a daily basis. The Mustang looks petite - it's a really pretty car now (moreso than the initial model) and the Camaro just looks the business.

I'm a GM guy - so I'd get the Camaro. And to that end, a ZL1 if I were lucky enough to be able to. Why? Because is why.

Great work on both GM/Ford's part and long may it continue.
It will be interesting to see if in a year or two they offer the ZL1 in Europe. I know they sell all the vettes and the Camaro SS there. Lots of tracks there too. Would be fun.

True, but if you are thrifty and can do your own work you can get it for MUCH MUCH cheaper than a Hennessey car.

My car produces right at 700rwhp and torque at the crank (Which I believe is where Hennesseys numbers come from, BHP) and I got it done for around 42k total.

My light wheels help the numbers but not sure how much. My car was last dynoed with big ass heavy Savini 22" wheels on it.

I can't wait to get a new Shelby lines up.
