Just checking to see if you were still with us...

Tough choice but if I could swing it there would be a ZL1 in my garage.
All performance aside it just looks meaner.

Dave, the SS 1LE is already one of the best and for the money muscle sports cars on the planet. But remember the urge to upgrade is never ending. And the $$ flushed is never ending. I have been there and back. My advice is to love the one you are with. For less than $50K your 1LE could crush any M4 and many other high priced cars on any race track if you want to go there.

I would keep my $$ in the bank and if you are a little bored spice up your 1LE with a few conservative modes. Make it your own, visually and performance wise with a few well researched mods.

And a 2SS 1LE is a rare beast. Keep it and enjoy it. The grass isn't always greener.

I gotta agree with this. As someone months into looking at new Camaros and starting at ZL1, I'm now convinced some variety of SS is plenty unless I was for-sure going to track it a lot (nope). It's already a beast stock and power you can't use is money down the drain just for bragging rights. I'd keep the 1LE, avoid blowers and drive the crap out if it.

I think this is the way to go.. The thought of owning a ZL1 is exciting. But in reality, I am REALLY happy with my 1LE and I like the thought of having a NA V8. Probably will do a few light engine modifications.

It's not really practical or cost effective to just "upgrade" to a ZL1. You're looking at an additional $20-30K to buy it and losing $5k or more on your trade. To me, half the fun is having something that looks slower than it is and then puttin' a whoopin' on cars that think they're faster than you. And too, doing the upgrade to an SS is tons of fun. For $15K you can give a ZL1 a pretty good run for the money. I'm for modding what you got and hopefully this new year I can show you what I mean.

I'm with ParisTNDude on this one hundred percent. It's a journey that is worth it in itself, plus the sleeper/surprise factor is real (recalling a stock-ish Mustang GT whose driver was ready to whoop my ass and got left in the dust---not fair, I know, FI against NA, but it wasn't me asking for it).

I'll add to this statement, as I completely agree.

In addition to the upgrade costs, operating costs are higher. Gas and Insurance being the biggest two.

If I can get 22 to 24mpg on the highway in my 2018 ZL1 M6 with my heavy right foot, I can see were someone a little less aggressive than me could get 26mph.

So, don't be so pessimistic.

I was thinking the same thing SteveV! I can get decent mileage on the road to with mine if I don’t drive aggressively and foot in the floor! When I had my 2016 SS I got decent mileage with it too so I don’t know what James is thinking about that a ZL1 can’t get that kind of gas mileage!

I know this is off topic... But I am sitting at my computer, staring at my beautiful ZL1 in the garage... But, it is raining like hell here in NC and I just don't drive her in the rain.

Not that the tires can't handle the rain, but I see soooo many accidents around here when it is raining that I choose NOT to drive her when it rains. I don't want to risk someone hitting her.

Yes I know that I could get hit in the dry as well, but around here the odds of an accident go up 4x when the roads are wet...

So, here I sit, on vacation, and my baby is in the garage. The weather lady said the rain will end tomorrow afternoon and Wed - Sun are supposed to be rain free...

Cannot wait...

Yeah it’s raining down here in Georgia too but it’s supposed to be nice after today for a few days! You are right about the accidents when it’s raining or been raining. People drive like idiots speeding, tailgating, talking on cell phones and not paying attention while out on the roads. I drove my old 2005 Silverado truck to work and left my silver beast to rest in the carport today! I will get him out sometime tomorrow or Wednesday when off from work.

Not many of you will remember the days when you went to the drag strip and at tech inspection, they decided which class your car ran in based on factory specs. Then during eliminations, you only ran against cars in your class. Back in that day, I won trophies every time I ran with my 440 Charger R/T. That's when racing was fair...lol (yeah, I know there were ways to cheat).

These days, you might be legitimately challenged by a 3 ton diesel 4X4 with $10 - 15K worth of mods which isn't exactly fair either, but if you have a 650HP ZL1 you're fair game and the race is "ON". But, if the other car thinks you're an ordinary Camaro SS and you've got a supercharger, tune or other goodies lurking under the hood, then the fun begins.

I beat a Charger Hellcat at the Memphis drag strip some time back with my relatively stock Camaro SS. It was great fun watching him burn up his expensive tires trying to gain traction, but the victory and bragging rights were mine! Several weeks later, he returned with drag radials bolted on and the game changed...he only beat me by 5 car lengths!

Remember: All is "fair" in love and war!...and I like to win every battle!
