Hi everyone !
I have a 2014 ZL1 with 119,000 miles and I have just developed the super charger rattle... My question is that ... are all 2014 and 15s covered by the gm bulletin like the 12'13 models' ??? Thanks yall! |

I don't think so... yours should have a solid isoloator.

2014 doesn't automatically mean a solid isolator. Mine had a spring.

Lol. I was disappointed when I saw my spring model. I was in there to do the upper pulley so it didn’t matter but it was rusty and slightly worn at 11000 miles

Half of the '14 production will have the spring loaded isolator, while the other half will have the solid isolator.
You did very well by going that mileage and just developing the noise. See your dealer, and inquire.

As I've mentioned before, I believe the coupler started out as a started out as a spring-loaded coupler. People complained about the rattle they sometimes heard and noticed the shaft the spring surrounded, became worn with the spring creating a groove in the shaft. People became alarmed. Eaton (the oem of the supercharger unit as a whole) tried to explain that the wear was normal and expected and that they had made the material of the shaft softer than the spring on purpose to allow for the wear.
The shaft was spring loaded to help absorb some of the natural gear lash in the supercharger rotors. After people complained about the audible 'rattling', Eaton changed the coupler to a solid one, which would eliminate the dreaded audible rattle. GM released the TSB and agreed to replace the supercharger if the rattle was still present if you revved the engine past 1500 rpm. This eliminated the audible rattle, but there was still the internal vibrations that the normal rotor gear lash creates. Eaton then changes back to the spring-loaded coupler, but this time it was packed with grease to help reduce the audible rattle, and that is what they ultimately stayed with. So, there are three possibilities for which coupler you may have. And before you ask, no i have no idea when each change was implemented by Eaton. Most if not all speed shops these days offer solid couplers. My SC was replaced back in 2014 I believe, so I'd guess mine has a solid coupler in it now, and 45,000 miles later it still runs fine. Of course with my bad hearing at 68, who knows if it rattles or not. |
