This is about the only way I would do this.

I can't believe in the days of Cell Phones and TPMS sensors people still want to fill their trunks up with a big spare tire.

I like how you fit it under the original cover.
I can't fit in there. But I don't need a pad...

if you've ever been stuck, had a tire that was cut on the sidewall, then you would. when a tow truck or assistance is hours away. I've had it happen. besides, the trunks on these cars aren't much to begin with, so you are not losing much.

The other issue is, the one that fits in the depression, depending on the size tire you are running, is possibly way short. thus if you are running a 305 or 315 in the back, allegedly, anything an inch or less is safe for the diff, more than that it is not. the 155 70 18is more than an inch difference from a 305 or 315. the price and inconvenience of losing some trunk space is worth it to me as opposed to replacing a diff if I have to drive any distance on the spare.

Rest assured that if you do puncture a wheel, it will be in a remote location at night and of course in a place where there is no signal.

Just at the stupidest time, in the stupidest place. Murphy's Law.

And the car will be 2 inches off the ground and you can't get the jack under there.

Probably nothing that would throw me off.
Common practice for heavy goods vehicles. There is a bit of a problem there. But a lightweight Camaro...? ....raspberry

lift pads are your friend. if the front, lift the back or put one in the middle on the pinch weld and up the car will go.
