This topic has been discussed so many times and people were warned they would get this crap if they got the V6.
The Camaro is known as a muscle car. If you get a muscle car without the option of most muscle, you will get crap for it. It's just a fact of life. The V6 has 300+ HP which is great but HP doesn't mean anything. What matters is torque, and the Camaro being fat means it doesn't have amazing speed numbers when compared to other cars despite that high V6 HP. You can tell them it gets better gas mileage or has a good motor in it...you can tell them it's enough for you or they're jealous...you can tell them you're going to mod it later...people aren't going to care. They're going to ask if you got the V8 and if you didn't they will walk away. If you get the V6 just make 100% sure this talk doesn't bother you because it will never stop. This car is too expensive to have regrets. Be absolutely sure that after you spend this amount of money that when certain people insult you for making the cheaper V6 decision you can handle it. |

When you and your wife by the next set of Camaros (6th generation) this may all be a moot point. I just read that the next Infiniti coupe, the G37 will have a 330+hp V-6. So V-6's will continue to develop/evolve until what? We could be looking at, what, a 350+ hp V-6 motor in the next Camaro? I'm pretty sure GM will keep the V8's for the Corvette and the trucks, but there's only so much "mpg swapping" they will be able to do in their product line to comply with fuel standards. But then you're getting this from someone who would be more than content with a 350+hp motor, V-6 or otherwise.

I've been driving around for almost 2 months now and get stopped and asked questions about my ride all the time. Never has anyone ever insulted me or insinuated that I should have got the 8. When someone asks what motor it is, I tell them the Caddy engine and rattle off the cost savings, HP, mpg, blah, blah, blah.
Why the issue on this site. |

I have one question for all the SS owners who are dogging the V6 camaro owners if the Z28 comes out and has more horse power than the SS are you still going to be saing you have the real camaro or will they have the real camaro? Or do you all just plan on trading in for the Z28? Im not trying to dog anyone for what size motor they got cause to me they are all real camaro's V6's and fellow V8'ers like me. I was just wandering how you all would think? Also do you think all the Z28 owners are going to bash all us SS or LT owners stating we got sissy Camaro's that had no balls?

LS/LT = V6 SS = V8 Z28 = V8 Having a Z28 or an SS will have the exact same response to the "V6 or V8?" question. Also, people who still say the SS isn't good enough can just say they bought their Camaro when the Z28 wasn't available. Some people with the SS will trade up, no doubt. However, the difference between the SS and Z28 is not as drastic as the difference between a LT and a SS. V6 or V8, that's always been the deciding question when talking about muscle cars and always will be until they kill the V8's someday in the future. I'm not saying I agree with that opinion but I live in the real world...and in the real world some people look down on the V6 because it's a V6. |

I get asked all the time, "Did you order the V6 or V8?" Usually my answer of V6 is followed by "Oh, I would have gotten the V8," to which my response will be "well let me know when you order your camaro."

Pretty much if the V6 bashers did not respect the engine they would not waste their time here on it. It's ranked one of the best in it's class and they know it....lol It's a bad ass engine as is the V8. One of the main reasons we went with the V6 is the reviews it had. A couple of weeks after that I knew I had to have a V8 too. Seems like a lot of the bashers are the ones who don't own a Camaro..... I sold about $20,000 worth of watches and will trade one vehicle in on both of my Camaros so I will happily defend both engines as they have their place in my world and I have hard earned money vested in them. If you are so above a V6, why waste your time on it...
