Other then the valve issues, what are known issues with the LS7?

I don't mean literally different. It had its own engine and a track oriented suspension. It was purpose built for racing. The 1LE is just a performance package so calling it the Z/28 would have been a mistake. GM lost its way with the Z/28 name so they need to make sure it gets back to where it belongs.

I have not read the whole thread but think everyone is overthinking this whole thing. I bet they just call this car the 427 Camaro like they did with the Vette. I hope they build it and price it right.

Let's assume for a moment it's rated the same as a Z06, at 505 HP.
If it had a price tag set in the mid-40s thereabouts, I could see this as a mid-range affordable performance Camaro. Not a 1LE, but not a ZL1 either. And just plain call it an LS7 Camaro and leave it at that. Of course, only GM knows for sure right now whether we're going to see anything like that or not. So we wait.

The Z28 name is important to our history, and it is also important as a marketing tool. It makes sense to me that an LS7 based Z28 could bring in more money while honoring the Z28 name appropriately.
Not everyone can afford a ZL1. That is simply a fact. I believe the TEAM is putting together a Z28 that will drop jaws like ZL1 did, but without the costly bells and whistles of superchargers. That means a lower price point and a happy market segment. Happy market segments make for profit, job security, and more hot cars on the road. CAMARO = WINNING

Zl1weighx 260 lbs more than a SS. If they just put the ls7 engine in and did nothing else it would weigh the same as SS. Hd axles and or reared would add weight but it would be in the right pace. Not like the 120 lbs of supercharger/intercooler at the front of the Zl1.

I would like to know what the intended purpose of the car would be. 1LE is for track duty. ZL1 is for track duty. Is this another track car or is it just a "we need to dump the LS7 stuff since Z06 isn't using it anymore" run to make use of existing parts.
With a manual trans only, it's going to be problematic to launch on a 1/4 mi w/o the correct controls and/or driver -- we've seen this repeatedly, even with the PTM on the manual ZL1s. Though, this variant shouldn't have the heat issues that that ZL1s are currently facing, so it should be a little more stable in back2back runs and such. If it's intended to be a 1/4 mi racer, I'd rather see it in an auto -- but, that ain't happening if it's powered by the LS7 -- unless GM pulls an Ace out of some hidden sleeve. |

If and when they bring out a 505HP Z28...... I bet they are gonna properly bump up the ZL1 to probably 650 or at least 630 like the ZR1...... They have to justify paying the extra money for the ZL1 so it will get a bump similar to this link......

The ZL1 is a Luxo-GT Racer, or top o' the line Camaro. The 1LE is a better performing SS Camaro. An LS7/Z28 is exactly what it's original status was...Track Superstar Camaro! |
