Slp Headers

I just purchased SLP long tube 1 3/4 headers with high flow cats and was just trying to clear something up. Some people have said they did not get a CEL and other said they did. Is a tune required or can you drive the car with a CEL with no issues and is there anything else that has to be done because of the header install? I appreciate the input. WIth all this computer stuff on these cars I want to make sure I do this the right way.

Hit and miss. The rear o2 sensors tell the pcm that the cats are working or not working. With high flows you still might get the light. I think they say the only high flows that wont throw the cel are the green high flows from kooks. Other than that you'll have to tune em out. And you can run your car with that cel on itll probably use more fuel tho.

You can run the car as long as you want without the tune. The rear o2s do not change the performance of the car, they just check to make sure that the cats are working.

^^^^This....and it won't hurt running this way. Most end up getting a tune anyway though because they don't want to keep looking at the CEL and want to get the most out of the header install.

I wouldn't dare do any modification that would cause a CEL without the necessary ECU tuning. Regardless of what the CEL is, I'd say get it tuned. Because the CEL could be trying to alert you to some other problem that you may not be aware of. You spent hundreds of dollars on the headers, spend another couple hundred and get it tuned correctly.

Was the RPM tune suppose to include the LT's? If so, you need to get back with them about that. They should have turned the rear O2 sensors off with the tune. Are you sure it's the cat efficiency codes?

If I decide to do the tune is the handheld tuners I see advertised the best way to go? I would only be looking to turn off the CEL.. I dont run the car at the track or abuse it.
