Is there a garage DIY way to change a fuel pump?

I've got a ZL1 pump that I need to get dropped into my tank. I'm wondering if there is a way to get this done in my garage with jacks and jack stands? I think the answer is no...because if I'm not mistaken the entire rear cradle needs to be dropped to get at the fuel pump?

I know the method of cutting a hole in the floor under my rear seat. And I really have no problems with doing this. It seems like a good way to provide ongoing access to the pump in case I need to get at it again.

But before I do this, I wanted to check if I was missing something and there was another way to change the pump for a garage warrior....

The first time I dropped the cradle. The second time I cut a hole. Those are the only two ways to get to the fuel pump.

If you drop the cradle, follow the directions for installing subframe bushings to get the cradle lowered. Then you just have to undo some lines and electrical connectors and the tank straps to get it out.

Either way you decide to do it, run it low on gas or siphon it out before you go about it.

Thanks for that post. Yeah I'm really trying hard to find the logic in not just cutting an access hole in the floor under the rear seat...

I know I am keeping my car to pass on to my kids so I wasn't concerned about it. There are a couple of threads on here that show the placement of the hole. I bought an access panel
http://www.jegs.com/i/Allstar-Perfor...ductId=1625086
to put over it.

If you cut a hole, start at the passenger rear corner. It gets extremely tight at the driver's front corner and there is almost no room for error. I actually scored my tank in that area. I reached inside and nothing came through and it felt solid from inside so I just filled it with some plastic JB Weld stuff.

Cut the access hole, it's easy. Should have been like that from the factory

You will probably need the special tool to get the ring off. You can use a screwdriver and hammer but its a lot easier with the tool

Just did it yesterday. Lowered the front of the cradle, didn't have to drop it all the way but I have a lift. No issues using a hammer and screwdriver. Literally took a couple soft taps off and back on

Here ya go.
I used some weatherstripping to help seal (it's out of place in the pic). The rubber grommet for wires still fits in the hole next to it as well. I don't have any pics of it in place though.

There is no rivet in the one corner because it's too tight against the tank.
