Question What is the purpose of a underdrive Pulley??

hey guys I would like to know what is the purpose of changing a under drive pulley? I also would like to know which is the best one out there and how much it would cost to install it?

The intent is to reduce energy lost to accessories by turning them at a slower rate, thereby increasing power and torque to the drivetrain. Generally, there isn't a tremendous gain from an underdrive pulley. On the other hand, they are generally not super expensive. If you break that into dollars/HP gained it might be a different story.

You're paying a shop 100 dollars to remove and replace one bolt? I want some of whatever you're smoking.

Nothing wrong with having a shop do it. But $100? It's a ten minute job, tops.

A 10 minute job on an LS motor? Wow.....you're good!

How many of you guys have actually installed one on an LS engine? There's just a little more to it than "remove and replace one bolt".

As far as U/D Pulleys, I'm a firm believer in them and have ran them in my cars over the last 13 years. Only issues I've had on 5 cars were needing to replace the batteries on 2 of them. Both cars were automatics and the batteries were more than 4 years old.

I believe that SLP's and Texas Speed's U/D pulleys are both made by Powerbond. Either one should be fine.

It'll take a little bit more than 10 minutes, but it's not a hard install at all. We were the first company with a kit for the 2010 cars. The complete kit has been tested here @ TSP tons of times. It will add 8-9rwhp.

I noticed some increase. I got one a while back when no one knew what size the right belt was so I had to wait a while to get it installed.

Idk about Texas Speed's but SLP's is. They are a great complimentary mod, theres not a huge gain but we have show similar gains as Jason stated. Its one of the best bang for the buck mods out there.
