Actually, it is NOT the law. It is a "regulation".

Only legislators can make laws.

Unelected unrepresentative beaurocrats create "regulations".

Thanks to these people, your car costs about 35% more than it would otherwise.

Cameras/screens don't accurately convey a sense of depth. The combination makes both systems much more functional.

For once we completely agree on something.

I didn't get nav system on my F-150 I use for towing so it displays in rear view mirror. 9.5/10 times I can back my truck up to my trailer and position my hitch directly under the coupler so all I have to do is lower it and secure the trailer.

In the truck's display it has green/yellow/red gradients to tell you how close you're getting to something. They're really very nice.

I put a backup camera and new On-Star auto-diming rearview mirror on mine the day before CFII. I made a template so that the camera would fit exactly inbetween the two license plate lights. When Mr. Oppenheiser saw it at CFII he commented that is exactly where we are putting it on the 2012, and you couldn't wait?

The 2" color LCD screen with 170 degrees field of vision is great, and makes backing up much easier than twisting around to try and see behind you. You see what is directly behind you, to the sides, and on the ground. As far as getting used to it, it doesn't take anytime at all.

I hope it doesn't. Yet another thing to cause car prices to go higher and cause people to take less responsibility for their actions. Pretty soon we will need padded suits and helmets to walk down the street.

I gotta say, either system will take a bunch of getting-used-to for me because I always hug the passenger seat and turn around.
When we got our Terrain back in February I thought it was really stupid. But after I used it a couple of times I found myself wanting to find a place to back in when I went places, lol. I couldn't wait to get it installed in my Camaro. I installed it a week ago and I must say that it rocks. It works very well for me and the screen is large enough to see what is going on. I highly recommend it.

My Mom's Hyundai Tuscon has it and I have to say for entertainment value, or pretending like you're cool and can park super close to something its great. However I still think it should not be legally mandatory, and I still laugh at people who say its required. I wish I could show them what kind of backing maneuvers I need to do to be able to back into my garage (I live in a garden apartment co-op complex), no sensors or camera and I've been doing it for years.

Sorry about reopening this thread. Will the camera be ok to use a Pioneer in dash navigation unit?

I don't see why not.

The camera comes through the rear view mirror.
