Attn: Fbodfather- Will GM save the Pontiac G8 for the U.S. market via rebadge?
Scott-
MANY people are hoping GM will save the Pontiac G8 GT/GXP and rebadge it as a Chevrolet for the U.S. market. Considering the G8 is ALREADY being built as a Lumina SS for other markets, it would be a senseless tragedy to kill off this GREAT GM sedan for the U.S. market. MANY people LOVE the G8 and I was under the impression there was a possibility for G8 law enforcement and government fleet sales. Please post in this thread to keep us updated on this situation and let us know what the community can do to save the Zeta sedan for the U.S. market. Thank you for your continued support of this community. UPDATE: I believe the cosmetic changes to rebadge a currently produced US-spec Pontiac G8 as a Chevrolet using the cosmetics from the currently produced Lumina SS will have ZERO cost to GM. Here is the Lumina SS. I have quoted the info from a post below for reference to show the cosmetics are easily transferred and the cost is low for individuals and ZERO for GM. Quote:

While I'm not Fbodfather, I can unfortunately report that the future doesn't look bright for the G8. In a broadcast to dealers and automotive analysts, Fritz Henderson stated that ALL pontiac models will be phased out by the end of the 2009 model year, specifically stating that the G8 will not continue being produced under a different make. Articles are already being posted industry-wide on the topic.

That just means my '08 White Hot G8 GT will be worth more in the future! I found out earlier that they only made 2,216 of that color.

G8 is done after the '09 model year...EVEN THOUGH IT SHOULD HAVE A TWO-PORT GRILLE/CHEVY BADGE SLAPPED ON AND IMPALA BADGES ON THE TRUNK.
Please GM? PLEASE?

A couple of things:
>The G8 is an INCREDIBLE car - but my friends, they are not 'flying off the shelf' so to speak - - in fact, there are many of them in PEP vehicle service here in Detroit because of slow sales...... >It isn't quite that easy to take the Middle East Lumina and bring it over here -- that car has hundreds of engineering changes and parts and components changes that would need to be made in order to make it compliant with U.S. Safety/Crashworthiness/Fuel System/Emissions Systems standards -- and I don't see us spending any money right now on something like this -- there is just too many other things that need to be done right now. Would I like to see a Chevy version of the G8? BOY HOWDY!!!! |
