Yup, should work as long as you're using quality paint and you prep it properly.

Personally, I would go for spray paint. You'll get a nicer finish. Brush on kits are good for calipers because they are somewhat bumpy... not sure if it's a good idea for the engine cover. Caliper paint enamel can be used for stuff like painting throttle bodies though, etc.

Agreed, definitely wouldn't try to brush something like an engine cover.
