Thinking Cam, question about install

I am thinking about adding a cam to my setup, possibly smooth idle blower cam from JRE.

Anyways, during my supercharger install we had to drill and pin the crank and the pulley. To install the cam, the pulley has to come off. What i am worried about is aligning the notch on the pulley with the notch in the crank when i reinstall the pulley.

Has anyone done this, any issues, anything to be concerned about, etc.

Thanks,

I wonder about this also, I suppose worse case you redrill the crank. JRE smooth idle blower cam would be my choice also, but I'll need a Squash fuel system to stay on E85 if I did.

Take the front end off and there is a straight shot to the front of the engine after removing ac condenser and radiator. That allows you enough room to get pin back in same hole IF you line it up correctly. Or just drill a new one.

I double pinned mine reusing an old hole and pin and drilled another 180 deg away from it.

Never had an issue realigning a pinned pulley. Shouldn't be an issue. Worst case if you get it ever so slightly off you can drill it slightly over and go up 1 pin size to make up the the misalignment or like BB said, drill a another one 180 out. Or just pull pulley off and try again until the pin goes it. Shouldn't be an issue.

What do you do when you have already double pinned your crank and pulley and need to install a new balancer pulley? How many times is acceptable to redrill the crank snout?

I wouldn't go over 2 but that is me. Like I said, I very very very very much doubt you can't get it aligned.

So has anyone drilled a new balancer to the existing crank pin holes with a crank pin drill guide? Sounds tricky. That would suck if you had to replace a crank just because you need a new balancer. I never heard why GM didn't key these.

That is tricky and at that point I would drill 180 out. Or line it up as best you can and go the next size up pin.

I have thought about this as well. If I ever have to take my balancer off my process is going to be;
1) clean all oil from the crank and pins
2) put a tiny (and I mean tiny) dab of super glue on the pins and place them on the crank so they stick out past the end of the crank approx. .030, or so. This will allow the existing drilled balancer to be lined up with the pins before the balancer engages the front of the crank snout, then use install tool to fully seat balancer
3) Once balancer is seated tap on the pins using a blunt punch to break the glue loose, drive pins in past flush, and install crank bolt

I don't think it will be an issue of realignment.

I don't really want to redrill the crank, so if anyone has ran into this situation i think a few of us on here would like to know how it went.

Well, since I have 1 pin on mine, if I can't get it lined up, I'll drill one 180* out. Thanks all.
