my in-laws have the 07 impala ss, not impressed at all. plus it's a front wheel drive.

Assuming drag race (those Impala's aren't known for their handling prowess), the advantage goes to the Impala. It is an interesting mix though, FWD V8 vs RWD V6. They both make about the same power (303 vs 304) and they even weigh about the same. It comes down to torque, and the Impala simply has more.

It's a very close race. I have driven both for a short time. They seem to be about the same performance wise in a straight line. I have to give sound to the Impala even though it's a close call. You just can't beat the V8 in the sound dept. But comfort and "fun to drive" factor definitely go to the Camaro. If you have a stick Camaro and know how to drive it, my money is on the Camaro. Auto vs. auto it's anyone's game.

I have a 2006 Impala SS, stock, and it keeps up well with my Camaro SS up through mid-range speeds (70mph or so). I would definitely say that the Impala SS would beat a V6 Camaro....
