While we're on the SS topic, I read that it's an AUTO LS3, without AFM! Is this true? Leave it to the numbskulls at GM to do this to a 4-door "family" sedan, but they cut the balls off the auto Camaro by sticking it with AFM.

Saleman: We do. But we also have an overpriced, 4 door sedan, the new SS. It has an LS3 and has 15 more HP then the Camaro. Might not look as good but it does have 15 more HP!
Me: Sold! I'll take the SS
I cant swallow that. The SS SuckS

I know right lol, But L99 owners are free of gas guzzler tax, as for the SS they get taxed. IDK GM would do this but I like the fact the L99 was offered.

Remind me did they ever change 2010 ratings for the v6? I'm sure they did cause they said they were using the cts ratings if I'm correct
It will never be the same, you can take the same dyno, to Los Angeles and take a reading then move it to Denver on the exact same car and you will get different HP readings. Just like comparing quarter mile times in two different places or even different times of the year. If the conditions are not exactly the same you will get different readings.

Yes the 2010 V6 used the CTS certification rating of 304HP, then ford came up with a rating of 305hp in 2010 on the Mustang V6. So for 2011 GM had the V6 certified in the Camaro and it came out as 312HP with no changes in tuning or the engine.

If it's on the Internet then it has to be true!

No they re-certified it when Ford's new V6 in their Mustang was rated higher than the 3.6 GM.

It wasn't certified in the Camaro Application until 2011. They just used the CTS numbers in 2010. Fbodfather confirmed it early in 2011.

What steps do they take to certify an engine?

You can take several stock cars and because of manufacturing tolerances can read higher or lower than the certified HP. All cars would have to have had the same break in, miles, oil, gas from the same source, etc to be a direct comparison.
You could probably take it back today and get different numbers.
Anyway the dyno its self could have been reading high.

I have no idea but they have specific SAE procedures to go through to be Certified.
