Rear belt on Maggie

How tight should the rear belt on a Maggie be with out having the cricket tool available anyone have a rule of thumb or guesstimate by belt twist or anything like that

I have the same question. Tension is critical. My belt is fine, but I am wanting to put the new one in due to age of the old belt.

I spoke to magnusun about the how tight it should be and they use the tool called the kriket 2 its a guague to read tension I just bought one from local Orileys it was 20 bucks I figured to have piece of mind I would just get one since it was not to expensive. The tension is suppose to be from 280-300 ft lbs this is much tighter than most people think. I thought my belt was tight until I bought the tool I was 40 lbs easy under there number. If you get the tool be sure you get the kriket 2 as there are a couple of them and this one goes higher in numbers.

280-300 ft lbs?? Hell no! Try approx 50 in lbs for the ribbed belt and approximately 15 in lbs for the cog belt.

Edit: just looked up the krikit and we're talking about two different readings. Torque numbers I'm talking about are on the set screw.

280 to 300 sounds excessive. Are you sure? I have the Cricket 2 and at 50 lbs seems about right. I have cog drive.
Please confirm.

I believe the krikit tools are for use on rib belts only and even at that, for use on ribbed belts up to 8 rib. The tool will probably be somewhat inaccurate on the short span 10 rib rear belts and is not intended for use at all on cog belts.
