Vararam or K&N
My first mod is going to be a cold air intake. At first I was going with the usualy K&N until I read about Vararam..has anyone tried this yet? They are guaranteeing 20 hp gaines without a tune. I am just wondering though if my check engine light will come on with out a tune?

No K&N.
Either Vararam, Cold Air Inductions brand, or Roto-Fab. There are several threads you can read that discuss them in the V-8 bolt-on section. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=11

Cold Air Inductions. The Vararam won't fit your 14.

They make them for the 14s now. I just saw their website a week or so ago.

I have the K&N and notice a little difference just like any other CAI. You won't get a check engine light it should only take an hour max to install it, all you need to do is follow the instructions that come with the intake that is all. No need for a tune and the check engine light will not come on.

Cold Air Induction, Inc. Best gains without a tune, of the ones tested by Jannetty.
JRE did a test of several brands. Unfortunately, neither K&N or Vararam wanted to play I guess - that would make me skeptical of any gains they claim. Here are the results. Click on the spreadsheet link at the bottom of the first post. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...light=cold+air

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...64#post2353864 Vararam never did make it to the party, but there are plenty of folks who say they are the best units available because of IAT, Airflow and HP numbers, not to mention lack of heat soak. The beauty of the K&N is it performs as well as a lot of more expensive middle-of-the-road units and can be bought used from one of the local haters for $150 or less and you can spend the $250 you saved on something that will produce more than an extra 5HP.

Like others I would vote for CAI brand intake. I went with it because of the JRE test results and I think it looks the best out of all the others on the market.
