LS9 cam
Let's talk LS9 cam..........
I think it's the route I want to go, so I have a few?s Are new springs needed? I haven't been able to find a definitive answer on this. What else besides the cam (and maybe springs) is needed? Will it need a tune after? |

Springs: I would.
Pushrods: I would. Tune: Yes. Think about Brian Tooley or Comp Cams rocker trunnion upgrade for your stock rockers. The stock rockers are light. Light is good. The needle bearings in them have been known to exit the rockers though. The upgrade takes care of that potential issue. I would also do a C5R timing chain while you are swapping the cam. I snapped a stock LS3 chain in my C6. That was expensive. Also a good time to change your stock balancer with an ATI or Innovators West since it has to come off anyway.

Would the LS9 springs be ok? Is the LS9 cam a 3-bolt cam? What pushrods?

Is a C5R chain necessary in the LSA? I know it's popular for the LS2/3.
New pushrods for the LS9 cam??? I didn't think it was a big enough cam to need those. |

Not sure if it's necessary, but it's good insurance. I broke a timing chain. If I change my cam it's getting a C5R chain. If you raise you RPM limit I would do pushrods and better springs. Valvetrain stability is very important.

I was curious if the C5R is any stronger than what is already in the LSA since the LSA already has 580 HP. I know for the LS2/3 it makes a difference.

I think this is good value if going with the LS9 cam for $455 per head.
Intake valve are titanium http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet+Perf...57324/10002/-1 |
