camaro ss stock hood slit / slot

Does anybody know if removing the small plastic liner in the stock ss hood slit, if this can be used as a semi functioning hood scoop?

Nope. It's part of the bumper and the radiator resides behind it.

Can't you just cut it out and maybe put a mesh screen behind it? I think thats what he is asking. I know you can pop out the plastic peice cause thats how you get the "Knight Rider" mod from ACC installed. So its not possible to cut out the space?

Well, yes but there is radiator support material behind it blocking all useful airflow so it ain't gonna help much....

Just leave it alone. I never really understood why GM put a fake air intake slot on the SS. People who know nothing about Camaros ask about the slot all the time. When I tell them it's fake they give me a strange look.

So how much heavy mods does one have to make to make it "work"?

That's when you point out the fake ones on a mustang... I know some of them had 4 fake slots... 2 on the hood and 2 on the rear quarter.

You would have to relocate the hood latch (or switch to hood pins). Then you'd also have to remake the radiator supports so that air could go through the gap without being blocked.

Not always true. Some were functional. This is from a 1972 brochure.
(And I can verify it, because I owned a new '72 Mach 1)

I believe he's referring to modern mustangs.
