2010 - Any Known Issues?
I am getting close to pulling the trigger on a used Camaro. The last thing concerning me about a 2010 is the fact that it is the first model year of the new platform. Are there any significant issues with the 2010 model year that I should be aware of? I'm trying to decide between a 2010 ABM and a 2011 or 2012 Crystal Red Jewel Tintcoat. I prefer ABM, but am a bit nervous about the 2010. I'm sure this has been covered in other threads, but I wanted to throw it out there.

I have a 2010 with about 55k on on the clock and I haven't had a single issue.

I looked at 10's but wound up in an 11 because I wanted the HUD. Glad I made that choice

Early VIN number '10s have problems with weak output shaft on the manual trannys. That all I can think of right now...

The 2010 is actually Red Jewel Metallic, lol...and it was probably the most awesome color ever produced. As far as the car, I've had nothing crazy happen and mine is a 2010 that had about 10,700 miles on her when I got it. I think they put stronger axles in the 2010 after a certain build number. I'm not sure what that number is but I think the vin #s lower than 200000 had the weaker axles and were prone to breaking. There were several threads on here that talked about it. You can check the build number by looking at the last 6 digits of the vin. Hopefully there are others who can verify this info. I think they were recalled by Chevy tho so it might have been fixed. This problem was with the LS3 M6 Camaro.
Also the MAF...you want the MAF sensor to have a letter followed by a number. Those are the strong ones which won't have issues when you modify the car. The weak ones have a single letter. They are prone to issues. It is easy to check the last 6 of the vin for the axle thing. But I don't think the dealer will allow you to pull the MAF out to read it. I'm pretty sure that all these issues were addressed but you might wanna check in the search engine for more details. Outside of those two issues I have not heard anything. And I'd say try to get the optioned out SS. The newer ones have soo many options that even the 2010 2SS/RS feels a bit of a naked brute. But it is still a great car and you may just trade up in a year or two anyway. For low mileage cars try to get them under $25,000. Good luck. |

Hmm let's see, third motor, 6th trans iteration, second diff, third set of axles, fourth driveshaft, lol, the list goes on, but this is a heavily modified car... The only issues I know of are the aforementioned output shaft on manual trans cars, and the shifter grind... If the car you're looking at had the output shaft issue, it's probably been long ago fixed, and the shifter issue is something that there are a number of fix's for... And this is all based on is it a manual or auto car... 2010, 2011 color is Red Jewell Tint, metallic... My color of car,

I've had a couple of issues with my used 2010. They've all been fixed under warranty though. However, if I could do it all over again and the color option was available I would probably go 2011.

ABM is a great color. The fact that it's a 2010 wouldn't scare me off....I'd worry more about whether or not the previous owner took care of it.
The only other issue I can think of is the oil-cooler leak (not just on 2010's though).

OP, You did not say if it was a V8 or V6. Most are assuming V8. There are different issues in the V6 & V8 models. I love my V6 and would not trade it for the world. There are a few issues to look out for though if you are looking at a V6. 2010 & '11 V6's had the LLT engine. I love the engine, but a few have had problems with sudden loss of oil & engines blowing. Also there are issues with timing chains stretching. If a V6 find out if the previous owner ran full synthetic oil & how often oil changes were done. If you are looking at a V6, check in the V6 LLT thread for more info. If it was well cared for you should be fine. Good luck.

I bought an early 2010 used no issues at all.
Also on he early 2010's there is a recall on the battery cable. Although this should have been fixed a long time ago at the dealership. |

Planning to buy an SS with an M6 trans. I will get the VIN for one I am considering and see if it falls in the first 20k that may have the output shaft issue. Thanks for all the responses and info, feeling better about the 2010.

If it's an SS and an early production model, the brakes squeak, A LOT
