Yes, because a 6th gen SVT Mustang won't be 4500 lbs on 275 tires. But hey, facts don't belong on internet discussion boards.

If your implying that off my post in the Hellcat thread, I did say hypothetical and what if, and that I doubted Ford would do it. here is my post on incase we forgot lol

Say Ford's SVT product does tip into the 70s. How does that not get the same treatment as the Z/28.... in your own words how much can they get for a warmed over (insert model here). No matter how good the Z/28 is, some people still look at it as just a Camaro. Why would that logic apply only to the Mustang and not the Camaro?

What if Ford accepts that challenge of going after the Z06 ( I seriously doubt that just playing the what if game) Ford doesn't have a halo sports car like the Vette, the Mustang fills that role for them. Ford can throw everything possible at the Mustang to make a car to compete with the Vette, and if that was their target it would most likely destroy a future Camaro ZL1. BUT like you mentioned, that would put the Mustang in a price range that it has never seen.

It is a very exciting time. I can't wait to see how Ford responds and then how GM responds.

I imagine you'll end up right on that guess. It's too bad though, because I think a 6th gen ZL1 will need about 630 hp to effectively match the Hellcat's power-to-weight ratio.

To be fair, the C6 Z06 competes with European sports cars in performance only. Sometimes I have to block out the idea that some high school kid in a Cobalt is gripping the same steering wheel as I am.

The C7 is a huge leap forward in that department. I love my Z on track, but I hardly ever drive it on the street anymore because it just feels cheap and out-dated. GM is really stepping it up with the C7 Z06.

Not many will get the base ZO6. I'll personally shoot for all options bringing it to 100k. Good marketing though.

So effectively a ZR1 with a $45,000 dollar price drop.

So is GM taking a loss on the ZR1, or is the C7 so much better than the C6 that it doesn't need a lot of improvements to handle the power? Or did GM just stick it to all of the C6 ZR1 guys?

A lot of the Z06's costs are spread throughout the GM lineup. IE 8L90 is in trucks/SUVs too, brakes are shared with the Z/28, etc.

Starting price is much lower than what I was expecting. The price goes up pretty quickly though with options, especially with the 3LZ and Z07 packages.
It's still cheaper than the C6 ZR1 was and supposed to have better performance all around.
GM should sell a lot of C7 Z06's, just like the regular C7.

Correct Fen!

In this age of gaudy horsepower figures and prices, the Hellcat vs. Z06 is a fitting example of how modern sports cars are not all created equal. While the Hellcat may seem like it blow the doors off of the Vette with its statistics, the Z06 is assuredly a better track car. Porsche and Ferrari loyalists will naturally gravitate to and pay more for products from their brands, and no horsepower figure or "low-low" sticker price will change that. Plus, the sports-car segment is small enough in terms of sales so as to seemingly play by its own rules. No matter how much horsepower the Corvette has, it won't do much to erode GM's Corporate Average Fuel Economy standing.

Still, the Z06 creates a seriously compelling value case for enthusiasts in search of power for a competitive price. Corvette spokesman Monte Doran reminded Autoblog that sharing parts and technology among Chevy vehicles has allowed the brand to keep prices of its high-end sports cars relatively low. The 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 is the first Z06 to use a supercharged engine, the first to have a true convertible variant and the first to offer an eight-speed automatic transmission.

"Chevrolet has developed a successful model for sharing components with Corvette and other models in the portfolio," he said. "For example, the eight-speed transmission was designed for Z06, and will also be used in full-size trucks with the 6.2L; the carbon-ceramic brakes are shared between the Camaro Z/28 and Corvette Z06. This enables Chevrolet to offer stratospheric-levels of performance without stratospheric prices."

Dave Sullivan, manager of product analysis for AutoPacific, an automotive research firm, concurs:

"By sharing parts and components with higher-volume vehicles, GM can keep the price down on the Corvette," he said. "The Z06 could prove to be one of the memorable bargains of the century."

Sullivan expects the horsepower wars to continue, which is only good for enthusiasts.

"Look at the Ford GT a decade ago," he said. "It was about $150,000 for 550 HP and 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. For a little more than half that, you can get more power, better performance, and a car that the manufacturer is committed to building for many years to come. Inflation? What inflation?"
