Seperate clutch reservoir

I seperated my clutch fluid from my brake reservoir by adding a seperate reservoir for the clutch fluid. I capped off the brake reservoir with a 3/8 plug, After emptying the brake reservoir, and placing the new clutch reservoir, I added DOT 4 fluid to both the brake and clutch reservoirs. I used 3/8 braided fuel line from Spectre Performance to connect clutch to reservoir......what do you guys think?

The reservoir is out of a 2006 GTO. I bought it at a local Chevy dealer for $19.88

thanks for the great pictures. im tackling this mod this weekend and its nice to have a few close-ups. you did a great job.

fyi, the reservoir is on a nation-wide backorder and gm has not yet released an eta on producing new ones (wouldnt surprise me if it took a while). i had to source mine off of a used gto, so for those that want to do this mod, be on the lookout for wrecked gto's in your area...

I was unable to find the literature on Camaro5 proving the need to seperate the reservoirs. Apparently, the Corvettes had the same set-up and GM recalled all Corvettes because brake particals getting into the clutch fluid. Even though it is a sealed unit with a one-way valve, particals get behind the one-way diapham letting the fluid become contaminated. A member on Camaro5 has pictures showing the discoloration of fluid and it was black. I believe GM has made a new reservoir for the Corvette which completely seperates the chambers. I figured for roughly $20.00, I have added security never having to replaces the slave cylander/fluid because of the problem.

Keeps the clutch fluid clean, and keeps brake fluid solely for the brakes. Basically in a nutshell, your brake/clutch fluid will never be black, making both systems lasting longer with less maintenance.

FYI, it is the clutch dust that contaminates the fluid, not the brake dust.
I make a point of changing out the fluid in the clutch reservoir after every track day. I just use a syringe and suck it out and replace it with clean fluid. Then pump the clutch pedal about 30 times and check the fluid color. If it is still dirty, suck it out again and replace it again. It only takes a couple of ounces to change the fluid each time.
Just go to any Ranch supply store and buy a 30cc horse syringe. Then put a 10 inch piece of 1/8 inch clear vinyl capillary tubing on the syringe. You can stick the tubing clear down the reservoir into the 3/8 hose to really get it sucked out good.
If you can't find a reservoir, go to the junk yard and just about any manual tranny older pickup or car has one.
Also, keep an eye on the 3/8" rubber cap that you put on the nipple of the brake reservoir. It is made of natural rubber and will start to deteriorate and crack. You will need to replace it once in awhile.

This seemed to be hot and heavy, then with the GTO reservoirs going on backorder it just died out. I would be very interested if anyone had any additional information on a direct bolt in or if the GTO ones were available again.
Cheers
K

Ok, so who says we have to use the GTO reservoir? How about we get creative and use something like this!
