Rotors/Brake Set up on 4th gens?

Well to begin my 4th gen is in desperate need of a brake upgrade/change. And boy do I mean desperate

It currently has some generic no name brand Pads and rotors grabbed off of some parts store that are worn down ALOT. I'm looking for a nice combination that will give me some good stopping power, not dust up a lot, and not break my bank.

I'm pretty set already on the pads. Going to be running Hawk HPS pads up front and Power Stop Evolution Ceramic brakes in the rear. The 4th gen is a daily driver and doesn't see any track action at all, just some spirited driving every once in a while so I don't need anything too overboard and no 6 piston Brembo conversions or anything .

Now the question comes down to what rotors should I run? I've been searching for like 3 days and looking at reviews and pretty much it's just a bunch of different opinions on whether slotted/cross drilled are necessary and how they're useless and blah blah.

So I want to know what some of you guys are running and what you think of my four possible set ups.

Set up 1. $480ish
Power Slot Black E-coated Slotted rotors up front w/ Hawk HPS pads
EBC UPR Premium replacement rotors in the back w/ Power Stop Evo pads

Set up 2. $350ish
Rotorworks Slotted rotors all around w/ Hawk HPS pads in the front & Power Stop Evo pads in the rear

Set up 3. $435ish
Brembo Slotted rotors up front w/ Hawk HPS Pads
EBC UPS Premium replacement rotors in the back w/ Power Stop EVO pad

Set up 4. $360ish
EBC UPS Premium replacement rotors all around w/ Hawk HPS up front & Power Stop Evo in the rear

The way I see it the rear doesn't need a big budget set up since it hardly does any braking. Also I don't want to run slotted & cross drilled because of the possibility of it cracking. Any suggestions/feed back is greatly appreciated and as a reminder this is a 3.8L V6 4th gen not the LS1 version.

Well I guess 4th gen owners drive their car around without brakes

Went ahead and ordered the Rotorworks Slotted Rotors all around along with Hawk HPS pads all around. Total price was $343 shipped to my door

I'm hoping they arrive around thursday/friday and then I'll install them and let you guys know my first impressions and later on how they turned out for me. I've heard only good things about the Rotorworks rotors on LS1tech.com and already have experience with the Hawk HPS pads so I'm thinking this is going to be a great and very affordable brake set up.

When I had my 4th gen, the last time I replaced rotors & pads I used AZ Duralast. Worked great.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep it in mind the next time a brake change comes around.

For those of you who have done the rear pads on the 4th gen, are you able to push the piston back in the caliper by simply using a c-clamp, or am I going to need to buy one of those fancy tools that goes inside the piston in order to spin it back in?

I was able to get the pistons to go back easily enough but I couldn't get the caliper back over the new rotors with both new pads installed. The Hawk HPS pads fit fine on the front with new rotor. I used PBR ultimate ceramic pads on the back. Stopping power is 100% better. Hope everything goes well with your install. Make sure you use the pad grease supplied.

Hmmm, we'll see how it goes when I install them then. Thanks for the heads up and for the response.

I have HPS pads and Power Slot rotors all around. They provide good braking with very little dusting. They will start to fade after a few laps at a road course, but are great for the street.

Good to hear. All I really need is a good street set up, the camaro never sees the track.

That's the setup I'm planning on next. I have all EBC products on the car, and it works well but makes a lot of noise for a street setup.

So far I would most definitely recommend it. I installed the front Rotors/pads on Saturday and then finished up the Rear Rotors/pads on Sunday (had a car meet in between so couldn't finish it in one day). Installation was pretty easy besides a few bolts and the rear right rotor being a PITA to take off because of rust.

I sensed a definite improvement in braking power (but then again my old rotors were .10mm under minimum thickness ). I now hardly have to press down on the brakes for the car to start stopping and the car does 45-0 like it's nothing. So far from driving around with the radio off I haven't heard any of the infamous "swooshing" noise that slotted rotors make. I'm happy with the purchase and think that for the price I paid, I definitely got a sweet set up for the street.

On another note what EBC pads are you running? I've been thinking of picking up some EBC Red Stuff 3000 pads for my moms MB SLK 230 and I don't think she'd be very happy with a lot of noise/dusting.
