Has a lift ever damaged your car?
I was just reading a thread of how this poor guy wanted to get new rims installed on his car but some moron lifted his car by the ROCKERS! WTF! The rockers were obviously pretty badly bent.
Anyway, has something like this ever happened to any one else? What about frame damage? Plus, I recently went to the dealer for some warranty work and the tech lifted and lowered the car like 3 times to realign the lift arms. I thought he was causing damage, but after checking myself thankfully nothing seemed bent. Anyone have a similar experience? Thanks. |

they lifted my 1987 by the rockers and they both bowed out to the point that it interfered with the doors opening normally......the Shop's insurance paid for it.

Just recently my other car was at the dealer, and they put it up on the lift and the arms of the lift were pressing up against the stock sideskirts and left the paint all cracked where it was sitting. Pointed it out to the service manager and he said it was 'normal' for the sideskirts to flex like that on those cars while on a lift, and that because the car is lowered that was expected to happen. I now tell them to be extra careful, all they need to do is take the time to put it up properly with a pad under the lift points.

See, I don't understand how you can screw up something as simple as jacking up a car. Some of these techs are real morons.

Anyone that causes body damage to your car from a lift doesn't know what the hell they are doing and shouldn't even be working on your car in the first place.

Our rim was damaged at the factory and we caught it on delivery, parts dept took VIN down and ordered new rim. Wife dropped off and stated we are really picky, be careful. They installed a rim with black paint inside and service man. said they are checking why and will call. Got car home I thought no problem then went out and noticed all 5 lug nuts are damaged on the outside dome, pissed I go to take 1 off and see if I can scotch brite it and polish out all the damn dents and knicks. Throw a lug wrench on 1 and prepping for a hard turn I fall down when it comes lose with no resistance, all lugnuts just snug, not torqued. Knowing the day I bought the car I used alldata to get the jacking points to raise the car and inspect the undercarriage at the shop I know where to lift and that there was no damage. Looking under the car at the front jack pad I see in from there a small crease where a floor jack was used.
I run a trans/auto shop and just couldn't believe this. I called service manager and demanded new lug nuts and will only bring in wheel to have rim swapped not car. What is wrong with people, dealers are supposed to know these cars.

YESSSSS!!!! When I had my wheels put on they lifted it by the freaking rockers! I had to walk away for a moment and compose myself... luckily no damage, just busted a few clips.

WTFFFFFFFFFF!!!! I'm shocked at the number of responses. Really though, these techs should know better, especially at the dealer. I mean c'mon some of these cars are 35k+ the least GM could do is raise their service dept standards and hire people with a brain (Relax, I know GM isn't directly in charge of who a dealer hires for their service dept.)
