Does anyone else feel bad about how they have treated their car?

I've got 700 miles on my black SS/RS and I haven't been able to resist every challenge someone has offered. I have raced a hopped up foreign car, Cadillac XLR, Mustang GT, and maybe 1 or 2 others. I'm happy to say I beat every car except for the Cadillac when I shifted from 2nd and into 5th instead of 3rd. I'm sure I could have caught him but there are a lot of cops in the area so I just backed it down and let him go.

I've never had a car with this kind of power and it is really hard to keep my foot from jamming the gas pedal to the floor to get that feeling of being pushed back into the seat. I waited until I had about 300 miles on the car before I really got on it and I had it up 116MPH. I've had it over 100 maybe 4times since then, but I've always tried to keep the RPM's below 5000.

After reading some of the posts on this forum about not exceeding 100MPH prior to having 1000 miles and others really taking it easy I'm starting to feel guilty like I'm beating the car and doing some possible damage to it. Today I was next to a Ram pick up with a V10 at a traffic light but I actually let him take off and resisted the challenge.

In normal driving I really take it easy on the car but should I be concerned about the 4-5 times I've really jumped on it? Is anyone else having a problem resisting the temptation to feel the power of the car?

Russ

Don't worry about it. My bet is your car will remain "tighter" over the long haul then someone who does nothing but baby it for the first thousand miles. Don't be afraid to play from time to time. The car needs to be broken in over all RPM ranges and conditions. It'll be fine!

"Some cars look like they're going fast when they're standing still. The Camaro looks like it's going to beat you unconscious, put you in a silly hat, invite a couple of other Camaros over to take photos of you, then e-mail them to all your friends and co-workers. Call me crazy, but I like that in a car."

range your RPM means play with it and downshift alot not crazy high RPM but use most of it all the time

It is hard to resist but age will make that easier.

I did not break in my 2001 Mustang Cobra or my 2005 Chrysler 300 HEMI C. My Cobra would occasionally put out a puff of blue smoke when I started it and always when someone was looking to cause embarrassment. My 300C always has a ticking sound like a lifter, I think all HEMI's do that but I always wondered on both cars if I did that to it by running it too hard and not breaking it in right.

This time I'm not taking any chances on a $37,000 car. I have tried never to rev past 4K RPM as manual says, but that is too hard, hit 5.5K RPM a couple times so far. Never slam shift and am always gentle with the clutch but also careful not to slip it too much. I have not launched hard yet or even chirped a tire. I do not break hard or push the tires too hard. I am waiting until 1500 miles as the manual says. I have been driving all over the place this weekend desperately trying to get 1500 miles on her.
You can still have fun though by following the break in rules, I still play with that massive torque pull the LS3 has which is a serious turn on. I have had 2 people try to get me to race, I just shrug and say it isn’t broke in yet, who cares anyway I don’t need to impress strangers.

Mine ate a mustang the 1st week I had it and earned her stripes! Saturday she ate a bmw, I stopped for gas and the beemer driver stopped in and said that she was one hot ride. then a dodge hemi p/u stopped, the driver said he's been all mopar sinse he was 16, he never liked the Camaro, he really likes the new challanger, but my Camaro blows away the new challanger. I have a hard time keeping my foot out of it, too!

I only have 145 miles in my 2SS/RS and once I accidently took it to about 4200 RPM's and there was a god awful burning smell. Is that normal?

Anything a one owner does will be pale in comparison to what the Avis Camaro's have to go thru.

Have fun!!!! When I get my camaro in Sept, I plan on doing a burnout and at least 140 and then chill out until about 500 miles.

SSOOCH;
DO not worry about that smell, it will go away after about 500 miles, it's just the new car smell. Read this thread.
