Out of state smog for Ca

Will the ZL1 meet the smog requirements for California if bought from NC? I would thing so if the tag says 50 state legal, but I want to make sure.
I think I just have to have it smogged once in state to register, if no Ca emissions on the order.

If this ZL1 has been titled in NC you might have a problem with DMV in Cali

Yes, all cars with the 50 state emission sticker are good in California. Check the CA DMV website. I tried to get there but their site is having a connection problem. I looked into this a few months and a friend from work bought a new SS Camaro from out of state.

There are two emission options for the ZL-1 that your dealership could choose from. One being California compliant and the other that meets the federal regulations. The only way to find out is to go back to the dealership to verify which one they ordered.

Yes, that is correct. If you live in California and are buying the car through a dealership here you should select option code YF5. If you are ordering from an out of state dealer the same should be done.

However if you find a new car at an out of state dealership that was ordered with option code FE9, which is the 50-state emissions sticker, that car can be registered in California. The CA DMV website states this information.

What is even more interesting is I have not found anyone who can tell me what the real difference is between both option codes. It really does not make sense at all.

I found the difference is you have to have it smogged in Ca if only 50 state emissions. If CA emissions no smog needed that is all that is different. From what I was told.

It may be a mute point, is it true you can not add the NAV at a later time, it is factory only?

That is a good question. I am not sure, but you would think they would be the car so that it could easily be added if the owner orginally ordered just the 7" touch screen radio.

The touch screen radio is also standard on the 2013 Camaro line.

Is there anything special I must know if I am thinking about buying a vehicle from another state?

First of all, the vehicle must be certified to meet California's more stringent smog laws before it can be registered. Many vehicles are only certified to meet lesser federal emission standards, called "49-State" certified. Vehicles smog certified to California standards are referred to as "50-State" certified.

These days all GM factory built Camaros meet all 50 states' emissions requirements including California. There is no emissions difference among Camaros built and sold for delivery in Florida, Michigan, or California, etc.

The YF5 RPO code for California emissions simply provides a California specific sticker that is placed in the engine compartment that states that the vehicle complies with California emission requirements.

I used to have an out-of-state Z28, and never had problems with smog, but, then again, was about 15-years ago...

My ZL1 came from a California dealer and it does not have a special sticker for the emissions under the hood. Looks the exact same under the hood as a car from dealer here in Az. Maybe there is no difference?

When I placed my order with Becky D at Rodgers Chevrolet, she asked what state will I titled the ZL1 since I'm moving to AZ full time this summer... I said AZ..............

So something in the emissions must make a difference............
