Good brand for rear gears?
Hey I was wondering how to go about swapping the gears out in the camaro for a set of 3.73's. What all would have to be changed, what is a reliable durable brand? cost?

Richmond gears was always good brand to go with.
Alot of us feel that the 2010 is coming with a pretty dead rear. A 3.73/3.90 would help alot with accelleraton. No clue on the batteries. =bobby

3.73 or a 3.90 is also going to kill your gas milage.

Maybe the 2011 camaro will get a choice in gear size, I've used Richmond in three of my cars with no problem.

Kill it? doubt it, 6th gear is solid. Sure MPG will be affected but not kill it.

No. Assuming a .50 or .56 6th gear, as Tremec has always put in as their second overdrive, you should really only lose 1-300 rpm when cruising in 6th at 60-70-80. TR6060s and T56s are geared long as is.

Gears-update coming very soon!
I should have concrete information very soon.Already have 1 apart taking measurements and will have ratios spec out very soon.
Currently the Camaro SS runs through the traps on the rev limiter in 3rd gear. This will be eliminated once our gears are available. With that being said, you can also just add more power or change the rev limiter. Lotta data coming down the pipe on this vehicle |

From a 2.73 to a 3.73 we only saw about a 1 MPG drop in consumption. Depends on a lot of factors. I got the call tonight. I will have a 3.90 in my hands Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. I have a spare diff assembly that we will install the gears. Robin

People jumped all over me when I talked about better gears for my 2SS Auto. Depends what you want. I can not see this car suffer much with a stiff gear. It has that 6 speed trans folks. Think about it. We used to run 3 gears in a turbo 400. Besides not all of us need to go 170 MPH, especially when the plastic front end destoys itself at 155 anyway. PLEASE list any mods needed to upgrade. Anyone that does it PLEASE list costs, mods needed to keep everything else happy and of course performance differences. I want more from my car and it should be relatively easy to get this car scary with just gears and another 100 horses.

If I had the automatic car I think the best money would be spent doing the exhaust first, Long tube headers, etc., then the next step would be to get rid of the AFM cam and lifters, and put a decent cam in there. This should get you to 475 crank hp without much trouble, and you could move the rev limiter up to at least the 6600 limit of the LS3. Hell, our 01 z28 auto had a 2.73 rear and only used 2 gears through the 1/4 mile-now that car needed some gears! And BTW, the plastic front end was a preproduction part, the issue was addressed on all consumer cars. Feel free to do 155 on your daily commute.
