My dealer offers the Autobahnd brand clear bra and they want $695 for it. I think I've seen quotes in other threads of around $400 from shops that specialize in it, but I'm not sure.

You figure we are paying 30k+ they can at least put good paint on, maybe the bankruptcy can can turn some things around! Sounds quantity over quality is what they are after.

that sucks, but i doubt it any thinner than anything else. as much as you like your new car its always going to get dents and dings. I know the feeling. best thing is probably just to dab it and let it be.

Scott - if you do decide to touch it up, make sure you use the one from GM. The duplicolor can be a shade off. ALSO DO NOT use the touch up brush that comes in the touch up paint, especially for small spots. Use a tooth pick and just GENTLY touch it to the spot with a bit of paint on it.
The brushes always put a thick "glob" that is more than necessary. A "spec" at a time with the tooth pick and you'll be in better shape than with the brush.

Yup. I'm pretty sure this files under the category of "they don't make 'em like they used to." That's cars, in general. The paint on my Infiniti G35 is thin, too.
On the other hand, though, I've heard of people getting into small accidents in '60s and '70s cars and leaving without many scratches at all.

I've used a tooth pick to touch up spots on the hood. Take a sharp tooth pick, dip it and put it in the center of the chip and it fills the void. Then after its dry do the same with the clear. Good luck

I'm with KJS-Use a toothpick
My wifes 10 year old Pasat looks like new. It has numerous chips that I have touched up with factory paint using a toothpick. Let it dry for a few days then hit it with very very very mild polish or rubbing compound.

I don't have all the facts but I've heard the water based paints they use now are a lot softer then they were years back and more prone to things like rock chips.

My BMW also chips very easy I know it sucks, but the clear film looks like crap in a short time. I tried the clear film on my Z06 and it was a waist of money as far as I was concerned.
