Reinstalling Trans

Okay so my friend and I took the trans out to swop the clutch and eveything but now we cant get the f'ing thing back into place to save our lives!! we have it sitting one a floor jack and its all lined up, like we can get the input shaft into place a little where we cant turn it from the back(where the drive shaft goes) but it just wont go any farther. We checked and rechecked with the alignment tool to make sure it was all in place but still no luck. Anyone with some idea of what could be causing this? the gap thats left is about half an inch or so...

ive heard that you have to tilt the motor to get the tranny back in, try unbolting the motor mounts, (with a jack under it) and lower the motor a few inches. might want to replace the rear main seal before you put it all back together. TSB on them, which mine is leakig oil. its one of them things, while your in there, might as well replace it

I had the same problem. I ended up tilting the engine back more by jacking lighly on the front of the engine. With it tilted more, we were able to finally get it in place.

Also, I assume you used a clutch alignment tool before tightening down the pressure plate?

Jack up the motor and twist the trans to the right about 45 degrees. This will give you just the clearance you need for the bell housing. Once you slide it forward about 2" you can straiten her back out.
