Wow, wish I'd read this thread before getting my center hood and spoiler painted. Been wanting to have black mirrors like my silver third gen had. Plan to now along with door handles, front bowtie, lower front bumper, and possibly side rockers. Just ordered magnetic rear blackout so I won't be doing that. Bought a can tonight from HD, to get started just need to wait for a day off with warmer temps.

So I have some wear and chips in the plasti-dip on my wheels, can I just do another complete coat on top of the already dipped wheels and call it good?

If you're planning to do a complete coat anyway, I'd just peel off what's there. It should be a quick and easy job.

I know when I did mine I wasn't happy with the finish on one side and the other side had curb damage so I ripped it all off. Good product but I haven't put it back on. Waiting until I get the nerve to get them painted instead or buy new rims.

I have done front and back bow ties. And the bezels. Black bezels sell for $80 on ebay! The bezels look great with sequential tail lights. So far it's holding up through the car wash just fine.
I have not done the wheels. How does that hold up ?

you need to restart. go slow and apply thinner layers. allow time between coats.

front looks like it could be redone also. almost looks like too many coats overall. you shouldn't have to tape anything if doing the front off the car. the dip should peel off and easily separate between the chrome and gold portions.

I used a bald to separate the gold n chrome portions. I waisted about 15-25 mins each coat after the first 2.
So thin layers on each coat then? I thought it puddles up at the bottom cuz I might have had the tape on wrong for he rear. I'm happy how the texture came out on from just not on the edges. I'm afraid if will all come off in one piece if I don't tape the chrome though

The thing I don't understand is how re you supposed to do multiple coats but I heard you hafta take the tape off while its still wet so it does t come off with the tape when it's dry? Do I need to tape it again for every coat I do? Or can I just keep it taped the whole 3-4 coats?

you can leave the tape on for all 4 coats then pull it off after applying the last one.

the bubbling is from too heavy of a coat.

it will separate cleanly since there is a gap between the two colors.

Couldn't have said it better.

Would plasti Dip work on a CAI cold air intake? Has anyone tried it? Would like to coat it black instead of the near chrome finish.
