OK so I have an BONE STOCK L99 with less then 2000 miles on it. #8985. I took it to the local drag strip last week and ran a best time of 15.2 @97. Now I don’t know how this compares to your other times. The catch is I live in Denver…..MILE HIGH. I know I was faster then stock Mustangs and Challengers.
I don’t know how to do all the conversations but I would bet I am pretty close to what GM claims the car should do.
SO, the moral of the story, there is hope for the L99s.

My LS3 counter part ran a 14.8 with the only option being a muffler delete. Now, that was my first time ever at the drag strip. I have no doubt that I will get close to the LS3 time. I need to play with the differant traction control options to figure out which is best.
AND OH YEA........that thin air hurts....but it hurts everyone !

Heh, glad to see another face from CO. If that was your first time at the strip, congratulations (I assume you ran at Bandimere?) and your times ARE going to get better. Just getting a solid feel for the tree is years ahead in your newly-blossomed drag-racing career, and hopefully after the bug bites you you start poking around under the hood and begin that endless search for the perfect slip. It'll stop being about beating the guy in the other lane and become a personal relationship of sorts between you and the car, and if you're not careful it will eat every dollar you have unless you set some limits for yourself if and when that bug bites.

All that macho/glory-days/boy-racer crap aside, though, cars are really gasping up here. Elevation on the excellent track surface at Bandimere is 5,860 feet above sea level, and people tend to race when it's nasty hot. About a year ago Bandimere ran cooling lines under about 200 feet of the track surface with an average reduction of surface temps by 50-55° F, which makes a world of difference given that surface temps before were often over 140° and varied widely with the quick-change Colorado summer weather; now they're at least consistent and a damn sight cooler. Remember, track-warmed air is getting sucked into your engine.

Anyway, high temps and high elevation result in very ugly DAs, and depending on who you talk to track times at Bandimere tend to run from .7 to 1.5 sec slower than the same run at sea level, all things considered. Unfortunately, there's no way to consider every factor, and as long as everyone's gotta run the same strip you still get the same competition for NA cars. Forced induction, it's a whole different story, but I'll give us both a break and not even pretend to be able to write about THAT knowledgeably. :>

Don't forget guys denver is at 5000+ ft. This time of year, Denver has a
DA of over 7000 ft. A high 14 - low 15 sec run equates to low to mid 13s.

A 97 - 99 mph trap speed equates to 107 - 109 mph in a 1/4 mile.

So no one should be shocked by Camaro's running high 14s - low 15s up in Denver Co.

Your 15.2 @ 97 mph (altitude corrected - Denver on Saturday) is around
13.7 @ 107 mph.

AND that 107 mph shows your 1/4 times are capable of much better than
13.7 with proper launch. This car is running as advertised.

From the 97mph trap speed it shows you could have made a much faster pass. I bet you had a slow reaction, and 60' as it was your first time. Reason i say that is i could consistently get my brothers ws6 that was completely stock auto to run 14.5's at bandimere. Some people with manuals and cooler days got 4th gens down in the low 14's completely stock at bandimere.

Now for those that aren't familiar with running at high altitudes that exact same ws6 ran 13.5 and faster at tracks close to sea level. It really sucks up here as you can mod your car like crazy and it will run like a stock car does at sea level.....
